Oil pressure low

Recommended Posts

I've always been under the impression that the oil pumps in these motors is high volume low pressure. Meaning that it's moving a high amount of oil through it at a lower pressure.

I kind of freaked out back in 99 with my first 5.3 when it was hot at idle it had around 20 lbs. Between 35 and 40 at highway speed. It would be around 40-45 when cold.

Well after 225,000 miles it still ran fine and used very little oil.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

Also the 0W-20 oil nowadays is like water thin so that would also contribute to the lower pressure IMO.

Yes it goes up when I rev up and when I’m cruising down the street the pressure is at about 35-40. Nothing sounds different to me when it’s running ether engine sounds good. Just not used to seeing it that low.

You’re good and like dieselfan1 said, the oil is very almost water thin...when fresh oil is in there it’s hard to even see on the dipstick, almost wish they’d make it light blue or something lol

Well the truck went down today, oil pressure dropped to 0 message on truck came up saying low oil pressure shut down truck. There is oil on the dip stick no leaks from top on the sides or below. Could it be oil pump gone bad? Engine made a real bad clunking sound.
