Metal shavings

2018 Silverado, 18,000 miles, checked dipstick has small metal flakes. Engine runs fine nothing different. It’s metal shavings I’m concerned. What’s the next step I should take, dealer or take oil samples to get analyzed? Has anyone had this issue? Will gm factory warranty cover this ?

If you take it the dealer I would want to be witnessing the drain, collection, check drain plug etc & taking photos so they can't just call you back & say all was fine.

I would pull the lower pan and when I drain the oil catch it all and inspect it. Also have all you receipts ready for service warranty claim.

Bore scope everything. Is it bearing material or aluminum?

Oil type weight and amount?

I would take a sample and send it in.  That will tell you what you need to know plus you have the info to take to the dealer.  I would think it is ok with so few miles but taking a sample is the best route to start off with.

You have Blackstone, Oil Analyzers, and Dysonanalysis to choose from.

I use Dyson because he gives great feedback in a PDF and a .wav file explaining each and every line on the PDF report he sends you.  Plus you can call him with questions.
