Well, I finally got this message coming home from my parents house this weekend. My g/f almost thought I was just "waiting" for this to show up when I immediately said "...gonna need a switch" as I attempted to use AUTO and 4WD functions. I would have to hold the button in for it to change from 2wd to 4wd to Auto and visa versa. Sometimes the lights would go out as well...

 

I woke up this morning and now the switch works fine and I have no message. Is this a sure fire sign that only the switch is going bad?

 

Put my mind at ease... :smash: I'm pretty sure its the switch, but would like some input if possible.

From what everyone else here has said... (and obviosly you have read it too), I'd say that it is nothing more than the switch.

 

I hope it is that simple for you too... :smash:

I second that.

 

Had the same problem. $65 switch fixed it. I only did it because I was going to need 4WD. I guess if you don't need 4WD, you can put it off. Real easy installation.

I was in Colorado a couple of years ago with the wife's 2500 Suburban. We were at about 12000 feet up at Alta Lakes in 4LO towing a 5000# flatbed trailer up a steep rain soaked dirt road, when I lost 4 wheel drive with a service 4X4 light. The truck bogged down to almost a crawl, and luckily we made it to a flat spot before we lost all traction. I was able to force it into 4LO, but it wouldn't go to any other mode. To make a long story short, we limped down a few days later in 4LO, and were able to get back to Tucson without a problem in 2HI. I thought maybe the switch was affected by the damp weather and or altitude, but it turns out it was just a shorted out switch. Warranty covered it. Probably your problem too since I know of others who have also had to get new switches. :smash:

Just happened to me ALSO this past weekend. I shut the thing off and it hasn't come on since. Are you gonna get the switch replaced??? Is replacing the switch something I can do myself????? (don't trust the dealers).....

Yes, I will have the switch replaced no matter what. I cant risk my 4wd not working with some of the jobs sites I go to when I work for my father. From what I under stand, the switch is pretty much a plug and play item. Very simple to replace.

Yes very simple to replace. Basically unplug and than plug back in. If you don't know it is cheaper to order from one of the the supporting vendors over <---- and here is the part number 15709327.

Thanks for the heads up with that part number. If my extended warranty does not cover it, I'll be sure to order it from one of these vendors.

I have the same problem and ordered a switch from GMPartsDirect.com, should be here today and the total was $38.93 delivered to my door...

 

The problem with NOT fixing the switch is that the system defaults to 4WD auto mode, which affects your gas mileage! Correct me if I am wrong...

It's an easy DIY job, took me 5 minutes to do my Brother in laws. The dealer wanted 127$ for the part and to install it. I bought the part from one of the vendors with next day delivery for 58$. Pull off the trim piece on the dash going around the stereo, gauges and over the steering wheel. Unplug, plug new one in, put back in place and then snap the trim piece back in. To get the trim completely out of my way without having to bend it I put the tranny into 3, tilted the steering wheel all the way down and pull the trim piece out of the way. Pretty easy job like others have said, plus, saved him 70$. Chris

My light would go on and off when my switch started to go. I took it to the dealer due to having a AAA extended warranty and the whole repair was covered- they ran diagnostic to get the code even though they and I were darn certain it was the switch.

I had the bad switch when I was on a little trail. Had problems going up a slope with loose gravel. Pretty sure it didn't engage 4WD at all. I just had to gun it to get over. If Auto4WD wouldn't engage then, I wouldn't trust the system at all.

Don't know if they are all the same but my 03 did it and my dealer told me to come over when I got the chance it they would reprogram. He said they were told the switch goes to sleep and forgets to wake up. Also told me if it happens before I get time to bring it in to pull the transfercase case fuse out under the hood and put it back in to reset it.

      Mediocre, how much did they lose on the poorly conceived EV strategy?   I wonder how much the stock price is being 'inflated' by all the buy-backs?   Cadillac literally looks like a brand without a rudder, no clear goals or product direction - performance or luxury? I guess performance because we can throw a small block in whatever we can and call it a day. Certainly not luxury when a Denali or High Country is reasonably cross shoppable. The Celestiq - no way - no vehicle can command quarter million prices when something wearing the same badge is on the buy here pay here lot across town.   Notice the 'base' Escalade doesn't even come with the 'leather-appointed' seating surfaces.   Hummer EV - fail Silverado EV - fail Sierra EV - fail Bolt/Volt EV (The most successful EV cancelled, restarted, cancelled, whatever its current status it)   Hybrids - none Sedans - none Medium duty - not anymore Minivan - none Coupe - none Convertible - none CUVs - 20+/-   6.2 Recall that landed squarely on the GMs highest seller - and specifically the fattest margin higher trims of the Yukon, Escalade, et. al. The most critical product line they fumbled big time. In the Escalade segment, are those buyers forgiving GM for a bad engine and patiently waiting for the fixes and dealing with the headaches? Nope, they dump them and go straight to the other premium brands.   In the ENTIRE GM portfolio how many aspirational vehicles are there? Corvette, Escalade (quickly being superseded by the obvious better value Denali)...   I posted somewhere else... what if Cadillac left the luxury game and became a performance brand similar to AMG or (gasp) Ferrari? Cut all the entry-level and base models from their line up and focus on the V-series or Blackwing or whatever they call it now. Of course, those would have the pre-requisite luxury and technology as standard equipment. This opens the floor for Buick to step in/up as the luxury brand (like they are in China), no 'performance pretenses' get rid of the 'entry-level' models with equally 'entry-level' power trains and become the Maybach to Cadillacs AMG. With those two brands effectively out of the way Chevrolet, the 'entry-level' brand has the floor to itself and GMC can take over as 'professional grade'.    Now each brand has a focus, no in-fighting, clear direction, and customer targets.   Just need to sneakily slide Corvette into the Cadillac brand and dump the vestigial script writing.

      I can't get enthusiastic about the 1.5T (or the 1.3 or the 1.2), I won't drive a CVT. But the stupid things sell in volume.

      There is a big difference in motorcycles and vehicles - nobody needs a motorcycle, they WANT one. That WANT is the most powerful force to drive price upwards.   I've hated every iteration of the Equinox, a prime example of GM laziness. It excelled at absolutely nothing, barely competitive by every metric. At least the latest generation looks decent.    I want to like the Buick Envista, but that pitiful engine plus FWD only is a BIG NO for me, I don't care how good it looks.

      Love my new 2026 truck - even as a basic WT it's comfy, rides nicely, etc.   Encouraged by the 100K powertrain warranty.   2nd GM I've ever owned (1st was a 2000SLE with Vortec V6 - loved that truck.) Small question - maybe I'm missing it in the manual? - but I seem to need to press the unlock button first, in order to open driver's door.  (Don't care as much about passenger door.) RKIs: is there any mod/setting change, etc such that when I merely pull the door handle it just unlocks + opens? I have minor concerns about ability to exit regardless of electrical performance. (I'm a bit limited agility w/osteoporosis from hyperparathyroidism - big guy, age 62, range of movement etc issues.) Thanks, Bill San Jose CA
