Interior lights staying on

Anyone ever experience this? Or know why it could be happening? When I shut off the truck, get out, and lock it, the exterior lights stay on for the set amount of time, and then shut off. The INTERIOR lights however just seem to stay on forever. In my settings I have the vehicle locator lights set to on, and the exit lighting set to 60 seconds, but thats only for the exterior lights I thought. And my dome light switch is set in the middle to “door”. Could it have anything to do with the presence of the key fob? I know these trucks are kinda smaahhht, I just didn’t know they were wicked smaahhhht.

2018 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT All-Terrain, btw.

Any ideas?

No it has nothing to do with the key fob being present.

After so many minutes (I forget how long) everything left on cargo light, interior lights set to ON, ect will shut off to prevent battery drain.

First thing I would try after confirming the switch is set to door not stuck in between to settings, since it’s easy and free is to unhook the negative battery cable from the battery and wait a minute then reinstall it. This seem to “fix” a lot of the electrical gremlins with these trucks. Does the radio shut off when you open the door after turning the truck off or does it stay on also? It should shut off if not I would suspect a possible faulty door switch on the drivers door. Also try opening the passenger door when the truck is off and the interior lights are off, lights come on, close door and see if the lights go off or stay on this will narrow it down to just the drivers door or not.

Thanks. I’ll give that stuff a try tonight. I only noticed it this am when I got to work. But it was definitely weird. And yes the radio shuts off when I open the door.

Just to double check the door sensors in the latch, have the truck in run mode for the ignition or start it up if you wish. Then open up all 4 doors one at a time. It will alert you on the cluster what door is opened up. Make sure they all show as being opened and that the alert clears off after it is shut. If that is the case then your door latch sensor is operating as normal.

Do you have any aftermarket items like a remote start installed?

Are the inside lights on when you are driving down the road or does this only happen in park and when it is shut down?

Electronically this truck is stock. I haven’t added anything. And yes they are off when driving. I’ll check each door tonight after work, And see how they show up. Thanks!

Silly question for you, did you or someone else possibly turn them on manually? They will stay that way until you manually turn back off, timing out after 10 minutes, then start the cycle again next time you start the truck.

Nah it was just me in the truck this am to work. And I specifically had to turn them off via the dome light switch cuz they would not turn off by themselves in the “door” position.

Have you tried the switch on the light itself, rather than the main on/off switch? The ones on the left and right with the light on them.

Yeah it was all of the lights. Front and rear. Not just one. I just messed with it for a while. All the doors give the door open icon on the dash and it’s not doing it now. Maybe I’m just a whack job. Hahahh. But I swear I could not get them to turn off this am.
