Anyone have any thoughts or solutions on how to keep the factory rear HD camera (integrated into the third brake light and plays through the rear view mirror)working after adding a truck cap? Is there a wiring harness that can be added with an accessory camera? I ordered a cap then realized this will be a problem. Not a deal breaker, I need to keep my things dry but the camera is a pretty cool feature. Thanks in advance!

You be be in an upper trim model? I just ordered a cap and there is no camera in my third brake light.

To get the rear spoiler off to get to the bolts to remove it and access wiring you need to remove the trim by the rear seat belts and pull down the headliner. Not exactly what I would want to do.

I think you might be out of luck.

I also thought there was a remote camera thing for the back of your trailer as an option. Maybe you could look into that, but it might not work if there isn't a trailer hooked up.

I think if you did relocate it all the way to the back, the view would be really odd and disorienting. The depth perception is already a bit strange through the camera mirror, I can’t imagine having the camera all the way back by the tailgate.

@Northeast4050  Did you come up with any work around, I just added a cap to my 19 Silverado High Country and my wife got in and got mad that she can't use the rearview mirror camera any longer, wondering if there are any 3rd party cameras that would work to replicate the functionality with a Cap on?

Hey, I wish i did but I've got nothing. I submitted an idea to Leer through their website but haven't heard anything...

It does, but why lose an option that is a nice option if you can get it to work? The camera rear view is all I use, so much nicer in my opinion.

@Northeast4050  If you hear anything from Leer, please let us know.  I agree the regular mirror works okay with the push of a button, but if you have kennels and other stuff in the bed under the cap, it's pretty hard to see anything with the rearview mirror

I thought that I was misinformed.

The reason I was asking is that I'm thinking to get me an AT4 at the end of the year and I like the thing with the rear view mirror camera.

You have a point with the gear in the truck bed.

But then, I'm used to having stuff in the bed of my truck and it doesn't trouble me not to be able to see past it.

Just purchased an AT4 and added a bed cap. Didn't like the rear view camera at first but i feel it would work great with a bed cap since it makes a normal mirror obsolete also. Has anyone found a solution to this? Since there is already camera on the tailgate (backup camera) would it be possible to splice into this camera feed and run it to the rear view camera input? That would avoid adding another camera to the back of the truck. Guess the hard part would be figuring out which wire is which. Not for sure it would even work after finding the correct wires. Just a thought.

A periscope built into the cap could be a solution. I’m not sure if any of the truck bed cap/shell manufacturers have made one with a periscope yet. But I’m looking, just bought a 2020 Silverado with the rear view camera mirror.

I'm going to take a swing at this on my 2020 3500 AT4. I'd love to move that camera onto the back of my Camper...

...I'm just looking for parts diagrams now. I believe it will likely be the same connector inside as the camera on the tailgate.

You've likely seen it, but people are buying this when they remove the tailgate: https://camera-source.com/automotive-cams/gm-oe-fit/2019-gm-1500-w-360-view-relocation-kit-with-camera-included.html

I think that's what I'll try. I just need to get into the plastic surround that houses the CHMSL and camera...

...trying to find 2020 (not 2019) parts diagrams has been difficult.

Anyone make any progress on this?  I just ordered a camper shell for my 2020 GMC AT4, and I would love to figure out th we mirror camera on the shell.
