Was thinking....relocating the existing camera to the back of the cap will be very disorienting due to the depth difference, and it’s a huge pain to get the cameras out.

What about ordering the shark fin camera from a Camaro or Corvette, install it on the top of the cap near the rear, and get a REALLY long cable to hook it directly to the mirror, which is how the 3rd brake light camera hooks up.

I have a 2020 GMC 2500 Denali HD with the camera, I am dying to put a cap on it, but I don’t want to lose the camera.

In the same boat here with a 2020 AT4 that I would love to put a camper top on but don’t want to lose camera view.  Please report back if you find a work around.
Thanks,

Anyone make any progress on this?  I just ordered a camper shell for my 2020 GMC AT4, and I would love to figure out th we mirror camera on the shell.

I to have a 2020 AT4 2500 and want to add a shell, but not lose the Mirror Camera Function, I was told by our salesguy that the Installer could extend the camera to rear of shell?

I would love to see this actually happen for you but I fear your salesguy probably used to sell bridges and swampland.

So far my search to do this has been fruitless.

Is this a dealer install or after market install on the cap?

I called to asked him again and he actually has a customer that is having a local installer put on a shell and few other items on their new 2021 Sierra, he said he will let me know when its back from installer on outcome. I will post here as well in case its good or bad news, but I expect its not going to be good news :)

Following. I have a 2020 AT4 3500 with all the cameras, need to put a cap on it, really want to extend/relocate/keep the camera feeding the rear view mirror. Any links/ideas would be great!

2021 GMC Sierra AT4 3500 here and I have had the truck since December and here are my thoughts so far.

I noticed the GMC Yukon has the rear view camera as well. So I would imagine the perspective on that camera would be more appropriate for the back of a truck cap than the current truck camera relocated to the back of the cap.

I know people were successful with relocating the existing truck camera to the truck cap, so if you swap that camera out with the Yukon camera then we might really have something.

I have a 2020 LTZ and really want a shell on the bed.  I just don't want to loose the rear view camera.  I love that feature.  I was thinking about the camera from a Suburban for the rear.  I will buy the shell the second that there is a solution for this issue.  Anyone found anything yet?

I found that Infotainment.com sells the digital rear view mirror as a kit. they told me that in there are more people that inquire about a cable and the camera to add to the back of the topper they might look into doing that. Wish someone had the gm end and was universal at the other.

I can buy a replacement 3rd brake light assy with camera and harness on eBay for less than $200. I'm looking into the wire harness issue. It uses LVDS technology. I'm not sure if that can be extended or not. If so then I would fabricate an enclosure and mount it on the rear of the cap.
