Can anyone tell my why the steering column is already rusted inside the cab? I just noticed it today while vacuuming it out. Or anyone else had this issue? I dont have any issues with the steering though.

There was a thread a few months ago about the same issue, seems quite common.

It's un-coated metal, surface rust will happen within no time when there is moisture in the air.

It's a non issue, it won't snap or break from surface rust.

I wouldn't call it a “Non Issue”. While it’s not the end of the world, I don’t like free rusting parts on my equipment. It would’ve been replaced under warranty, if you were still covered. A series of parts somehow got through without any sort of finish on them.  The thinnest parts of the ears where it mates to its connecting parts are where it will fail, eeevvveeeennnttuuuaally. It will also cause the parts it touches to begin to corrode.

show it to your service guy and ask. Don’t be a dick, but let him know you’re concerned and have them put it in your notes.

You can touch it up with rust reformer paints or grease it a little, if you’re concerned.  I’d look at the other end of it as well. It’s ridiculously dry where I live, so not such a big deal, but if I lived in Florida or Louisiana...

Come to Minnesota, you'd lose your mind with all the sweet rust we have.

If techs didn't have some big company to keep happy they'd look you straight in the face, then walk away if someone complained of surface rust on a steering shaft.

I’m the one that started the thread a couple months ago. Mine might have been even worse (could see no silver at all) that yours. Non-issue or not, dealer replaced mine in about 40 minutes under warranty for “excessive” rust.
