Why all the rub fear/dread?

Hopefully I don’t get flamed for this, go easy on me.. I’ll admit I’m a newbie truck owner.

So after a LOT of research here sifting through countless threads, I finally decided on Moto 2.5” front level and 1” rear block. I am absolutely satisfied with the the look. It’s exactly what I was looking for on my 18’ with 20” oem replica wheels with stock offset and 275/60r20 tires.

Though guess what.. minor UCA rubbing at absolute full lock! Dun dun dun..

Ok, sorry. I kid. But really, why do so many people fear it? I couldn’t really find any info correlating it to to any signficant damage? All I see is extremely minor rub marks on the UCA’s. I can live with it, seeing as that I almost never fully lockout anyway.

So is it more the rubbing sound, annoyance factor that people are so drastically afraid of after level they their trucks?

Depends on your combo, a stock negative offset wheel is not that bad. Just go 1" larger in diameter over what you have, or add negative offset and things change. Then start off roading and you will find out what the problems are. The wheel can't fully articulate in the stock well. Run offset rims and a larger tire, you can have metal digging into a tire. Have it to the point where you literally can't turn the steering wheel but 1.5 rotations - a lot of stuff comes up that plain does not work.

It's not some case of people just over reacting. There are some guys who tolerate some really sketchy set ups, that are totally rigged. There are some guys who are over sensitive too, but your set up is mild and not really to the point where you encounter the real problems. Go larger than what you have  in any direction and you will find out. Try a 34" tire, or a negative offset and the limitations will show themselves.

Can't just throw a 35x12.50 on there, which is what starts to look good on these trucks due to the large body size IMHO. I had to do a lot just to run a 33x12.50 on a negative offset wheel  without a real lift (2.5" suspension lift).

We all need to be more like the tacomaworld guys. Dudes are trimming their fenders without a second thought to fit bigger tires over there.

Took a cut off wheel & mini sledge to my truck, no problem (can't tell that I did it either). Your right, It's the guys that want a cool set up but don't want to have to cut/chop at all.

It's not that big of deal unless you have no mechanical skills or don't want to pay somebody, then  yes it's a problem.

What is the concensus here on wheel spacers? Are they more trouble than they are worth? I see Rough Country makes a 1/2" spacer, maybe that would alleviate my rubbing issue.. If not, I could honestly live with the UCA rubbing I have.

God no.  DO NOT put RC spacers on your truck.  Live with the rub, buy wheels and/or UCA's that solve the issue, lift more, buy quality spacers (BORA), or anything else really but RC spacers.

RC spacers are that bad huh? I’m thinking I could honestly live with the rubbing..

Why would you tolerate rubbing?  Your tire choice or level kit is simply not a match for your new truck.   Looks are important but not at the expense of function or safety.  It's like buying shoes for their appearance. . (To heck with the blisters as long as I look good ;-))  The tire size you have chosen is not too far over stock and may fit with a slightly smaller level (1.5 or 2") .  Or, a lower tire aspect will  fit (55 vs 60), look good, and function just as well as a larger size.  I am not an expert in this area but I would not knowingly drive a vehicle with tires that restrict operation of my suspension.

Aggressive tread blocks rubbing makes an expensive, fancy looking truck sound like garbage IMO.

That is your choice not to tolerate rubbing. I'm sure there are a LOT of people on this forum that tolerate rubbing much more severe than mine and that is there choice also. It's their truck, their choice of what they are willing to tolerate. It really is quite an easy solution to my scenario honestly.. Mine barely rub at completely full lock in reverse = slowing down my reverse speed by a mile or two per hour fixes the issue. It's not really the end of the world for me to do so. That minor fix is worth the big difference (to me) the 2.5" makes over the 1.5" I previously had. Still a little confused as to how a very minor rub in reverse at full lock is a big safety issue? Or how losing one or two degrees of steering in reverse is a big loss in function? Now, in other more severe rubbing scenario's I could see more logic in your statement..

No fear or dread here.

Leave it stock.

Problem solved.
