Check your G218 ground stud.  Search the forum for something like "Guys with funky electrical issues" and you will find the thread with videos showing you how to fix it.

When this happened to my 2017 6.2L, I went to a friend's shop and he scanned and cleared the codes. Was fine after that. I would have had the dealer do, and they were about to, but they said with all of my mods the scanning process would have told GM what I've done to the truck.

well 1st of if you are still in warranty take it to the dealer. it could have a bad steering gear . they are electronic.

2ndly there is an electrical issue which could be battery, battery cables, grounds.

3rd there is a recall to program the power steering control module with updated software.

Has anyone figured out how to fix this or what causes this?

In our 16 Tahoe, it meant the sensor inside of the rack had failed.

Not a replaceable part, so $2000.00 + for a new rack.
