Has anyone installed the hd bumper on a 1500?

I’ve seen info on the chevys.. not on the gmc’s.

I love my truck, but I hate the valence between the chrome bumper and grill. I’d also love to have that larger grill

is there any info out there on this topic?

Ive heard, you’ve got to do some fabrication with bumper brackets.

Seeing a previous post of someone doing the hd hood conversion so it seems the hd grill will fit fine with the oem 1500 hood..

would love to see some info on this!

thanks!

I have been wondering the same about the REAR bumper... the bumper cap is taller on the corners and lengthwise under the tailgate. I think that would be a good compromise when doing a 1.5" body lift.

The rear would fit with a body lift of a quarter inch just fine.

Having said that chevy/gmc same thing when it comes to rears. I put a 2500 rear on my silverado w/o body lift and the only thing i get is the bottom of the tail gate binding on the plastic upper a little. Dementions of the bumper are the same just different mountimg brackets and plastic top.

Plus it fits way better with less gap all around..

I’ve never noticed the rear bumpers being different on the hd’s! I will certainly take a look next time: the rear however, does not bother me. Just the front. These trucks look soo goofy with a level or lift and that tiny front bumper.

I’ve got to dig a little deeper, seems there isn’t much info out there. It can’t be to difficult of a job I’m a collision repair tech in the heavy truck industry, fabrication and making things fit right is what I do

im also going to swap to the HD front bumper, and im slowly collecting parts.  I know you need the following

Complete HD front bumper with all brackets

HD Grille

HD Filler pieces (under the headlights)

Front Fender trim (if its for a 14-15, 16+ do not need the trim)

I believe the Grille and the filler pieces are a direct bolt on.  The front fender trim on a 14-15 are longer in the front, so when the bumper is swapped on will not fit.  A set of HD bumper trim from 15+ are a direct fit.

From what I can tell, if you use the 1500 Frame brackets, and make a bracket to adapt the HD bumper it will fit on.  THe only thing I am not sure that the tow hooks are able to be used in the OEM location with the HD Bumper

I say do it and post details on for a diy. I keep hearing the grill has to be cut and frame mounts need work. It'd be cool to se how it all goes together.

This is awesome info. Your probably right about the tow hooks. Would you mind posting pics as you do it? Im

going to look into this more. I’m curious as to what the fabricated bracket looks like.

Could you further explain what you mean when you reference front fender trim? I understand the filler piece under the headlights.

So it appears the design of the front fender trim changed between the 14-15, and the 16+ trucks, and the HD trucks.  From what I have determined the front fender trim in the 14-15 trucks extends down further infront of the front wheels than the HD's and the 16+ trucks.  If you take a look at the 1500 Filler panel on the 14-15 its much larger than the filler panel that is on the 16+ 1500.  The 16+ Filler panel appears to be the same thickness as the HD filler panel.
