Alright... here goes.  i have a 2015 Silverado 1500 2LT

Last night, i backed my Silverado into a pole with the tail gate down. it smashed it up and now is hard to close.

Mine is the assist opening and closing.   I have found a tailgate that does NOT have the assist and i was wondering what it would take to get that to work on my truck; if it is possible at all.  or if anyone has a 1500 Silverado tailgate in summit white, that would be cool too!

Hope to get some good info soon so the tailgate doesnt go

Welcome to the site!

Sorry to hear about your truck, but if it were me, I would start tearing apart the current gate to see what parts are in it.

I know there is a "torsion bar" that runs from the driver side to the passenger side that is installed internally for the easy lift, and then a "damper" on the passenger side for the "easy down".

These parts might be reusable, and could save you some money.

Aww man. That happens to a lot of people. I've seen it for years. Don't beat yourself up too bad.

You can put a regular tailgate on, it'll work. Just won't have the assist.

How hard did you hit the pole? Any chance it could've started to buckle the bedrails outward?

Jim-

i will try and tear down the existing tailgate tonight and see whether the parts are reusable. unfortunately i cant tear the down the non assist tail gate and see if there is anything different in that one besides the damper and torsion bar.

the hinges that are attached to the truck should be the same, correct?

just makes you go "DAMN..."

so i should be able to put the non assist tail gate on?  should be be a direct fit replacement? or will the hinges on the truck need to be changed out at all?  the guy that has the non assist tail gate seems to think something is different, but i dont know how much of an expert he is.

i wasn't moving quickly. maybe 5 MPH it was just in the blind spot between my left side mirror and rear view mirror.    the backup camera sure would of saved me on that one had the tailgate been up.

Do not think so, because of the way the torsion bar and damper are attached to the gate itself.

If possible, have him take a picture of the corners (hardware, how it looks on the gate and truck), and send it to you to compare.
