Silverdao paint chipping

My 2018 silverado paint is terrible. I lease a new truck every 3 years. This truck has 15k on the odometer and looks worse than the last truck after 45k.  Paint chips everywhere.  Is this just my isolated problem?

Nope, unfortunately you are not alone. I just found a shitload of chips on my driver's door as well (2017 Sliverado). Paint is micro-thin and flimsy. Mine is also at 15k miles. I'm pretty pissed about that. The crappy Maaco paint on my 90 is better than that.

All vehicles these days have that problem, paint is much thinner and of a much different chemistry to comply with EPA guidelines. If you are lucky a higher end manufacturer might put on a thicker coat but for the most part it is the norm these days. Really the ones who complain are those that have painted steel bumpers as painted plastic is able to absorb hits much easier. That is why I prefer chrome, my bumper looks fantastic after 5 years. I had a bug guard and now a clear bra on the hood and all is well. I have a few scratches or dings in other spots but it is a truck and get used as such so those are to be expected and don't bother me. Either way if you have a painted bumper clear bra it if you want it to look good years down the road or go chrome...

My truck has double digits of small chips on the leading edge of the hood, last time I counted. I'm not too anal about it because its a truck. But I could see some being very unhappy about it. I might try to touch them up next summer just to make sure no rust forms.

 

Need to protect the front end with something (clear bra/ wrap) if chips will bother you.
