Bob2C Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 So today I changed my oil in the 5.3. I have been using Mobil 1 EP 0w-20 and always had oil pressure at 20psi or lower when idling. I decided to try the Shell Rotella gas truck 0w-20 and noticed my oil pressure now at 30psi constant when idling at operating temp. Curious as to how this can be if viscosity is the same. RedGirl Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 I'm no expert on the subject, but I've been using mobile 1 consistently on all of our trucks. I've had 2 Yukon Xl Denali trucks, starting in 2001 and only recently I changed over to Escalade. I also use Mobil 1 in that. I also follow Scotty Kilmer and youtube, and the guy, though a bit obnoxious, appears to know his stuff, always says that all oils are really good but he recommends to just stay with 1 brand. Just pick the one that you like, that favors your wallet and your vehicle and stick with it. He says a lot more, so maybe check him out and see if it suits your needs. I started with Mobile 1 because Costco sells it so I save and it works fine. For all the other fluids I have gone to Amsoil. Maybe it's in my head but I did the front and rear differential in my husband's Colorado with Amsoil and it feels better. Also did the transfer case with Amsoil. I use it in my son's xterra too. Maybe it's over kill but I know what I'm putting in the truck and I'm saving sooooo much doing it myself that it's worth it to me.

Bob2C Posted December 13, 2019 Author Posted December 13, 2019 So Bob, what is you HOT idle pressure with the Shell now? About 25 hot. Mobil 1 was 20 and sometimes dip below 20. When I change it I am going to send out a sample to black stone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
