 I ended up catching the limb.

I would let a paint less dent pro take a look at it.   You would be surprised how they can massage metal and bring it back to it’s pre dent shape.   They will give you their opinion if it can be repaired without bondo.   Worth a visit.

Plus 1 on dent man. They popped out a dent on my wife’s Durango that I thought were def gonna need body work. Happened on fender crease. Can’t even tell anything happened.

That wont be too bad as nothing crinkled. They can probably pull it out with minimal to no bondo. Could be worse.
