When did you do your first oil change?

Nope, the owner’s manual doesn’t specify a mileage. Everything goes through the OLM system, provided you don’t go more than a year on an oil change.

The first maintenance on their schedule is 7500, and even that one just lists checking the oil.

Perhaps the people who have been saying GM wants 5000mi can cite a better source than the 2019 owner’s manual...otherwise I have to assume the whole thing is made up like much of the other crap in the past few oil threads.

Engine Oil Life System

When To Change Engine Oil

This vehicle has a computer system that indicates when to change the engine oil and filter. This is based on a combination of factors which include engine revolutions, engine temperature, and miles driven. Based on driving conditions, the mileage at which an oil change is indicated can vary considerably. For the oil life system to work properly, the system must be reset every time the oil is changed.

On some vehicles, when the system has calculated that oil life has been diminished, a CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message comes on to indicate that an oil change is necessary. Change the oil as soon as possible within the next 1 000 km (600 mi). It is possible that, if driving under the best conditions, the oil life system might indicate that an oil change is not necessary for up to a year. The engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and, at this time, the system must be reset. For vehicles without the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOONmessage, an oil change is needed when the REMAINING OIL LIFE percentage is near 0%. Your dealer has trained service people who will perform this work and reset the system. It is also important to check the oil regularly over the course of an oil drain interval and keep it at the proper level.

If the system is ever reset accidentally, the oil must be changed at 5 000 km (3,000 mi) since the last oil change. Remember to reset the oil life system whenever the oil is changed.

It was an update to the models with cylinder deactivation prior to the 19 models. Don’t know if it applies to the 19 and up. It was posted on this web site. It was in response to the problems with external vacuum pumps among others. That’s a fact, jack.

I remember that post! Mentioned pump failures due to sludge in the pumps inlet screen and a need to be more proactive. Of course it got bulldozed by the 'defective equipment' clamor. There was a like comment in a letter I got from GM on the pump warranty. Point is your memory is on the mark.

Thanks for the clarification. These trucks don’t have a vacuum pump anymore, so 5000 is inaccurate just the same within this forum.

What's the vacuum source now?

The new ZF IBC braking system doesn’t rely on vacuum.

I’m sure eliminating the problematic vacuum pump is one of the main reasons GM went to this system. It is also being used in the C8 Corvette, and will probably be in everything before too long.

The system has had some glitches, and I haven’t always enjoyed acting as a beta tester for it...but that’s for another thread.

Guys, is this normal for 2000 miles driven since oil change? The crosshatch was covered after oil change.

You’ll start chasing your tail checking your oil. Check it in the same spot at the same engine temp. Best cold if you can. Otherwise as long it’s in the safe zone you’re good.

Lol, no joke man.

I just parked hee on a level spot. She hadn't been run for a couple days. I'll check again in the a.m. to be sure.

Thank you for the 411

Wow! What a difference just the least bit of unlevel land can make when checking your oil!

I parked her totally level last night, and just checked again, and shes pretty much full, lol

Man, and I mean before, most would think she was parked level. But, she really needs to be level to get a correct reading

Here is the pic from just a minute ago

Basically full
