Rear Glass Shattered

I thought I had read here, that the Rear Glass Shattering was somewhat common ?. My Nephew has a 2015 Silverado LTZ that had the back glass that was shattered when he got out of work. Check security cameras, nobody near the truck. Is this something that some here have experienced ?

There's been a good bit of that happening on here, something to do with the rear defrost and excessive heat building up as a result.

Applies to the rear glass with sliding window

This is an unrelated vehicle manufacturer, but my Father had a 2013 Ford Transit Connect and 2014 Ford Transit Connect.  He experienced the rear window shattering once in the 2013 while driving and believes he was shot at, although I don't know how he would know.  On the other hand, the rear window in the 2014 shattered on two separate occasions while parked in his driveway.  Never in my life have I heard of one person having that many windows shatter of any kind.

I would think it would be more common on "partially shaded" rear glass moreso than "unshaded" glass.

metal wires expand at one rate within the glass and the glass expands at a different (slower) rate when heated. (it's due to each material's unique thermal expansion coefficient).

I came here to see if it was a rear glass with slider or not.

Which leads me to the next question, can one upgrade from solid rear glass to glass with sliding window?

All the windows that shatter on here from the defrost are the sliding window ones.

Yep, has the slider. Is there any recourse ?, can he expect this to happen with a replacement ?
