Mine is still doing this too (in addition to periodically not starting and throwing a ton dash codes and alerts)… no fix from the dealership of course.

Possible solution… I’m not an expert by any means but I found that the infotainment system in my 2020 Silverado does some weird things if my iPhone isn’t updated.

I got this same screen that everyone is talking about on the backup cam last night for the first time.. couldn’t get it to work. Checked my iPhone for an update and it needed to be updated to the latest version of iOS. Low and behold when I get in the truck this morning it works with no issues. Again, no clue if this is just a coincidence - but updating my phone has fixed glitches in the past. Worth a shot, hopefully this helps.

Had same warning indicator on screen, opened automatic tailgate and then manually shut it firmly, sort of slammed it shut.  Works fine now.

today at less than 2000 miles my 2020's backup camera stopped working,  all I got was the warning symbol and a crossed out camera icon in the display.  Drove to work and waited 45 min and just went out to check it again and it works now.  Any ideas?   I don't have the lane departure stuff or forward camera.

Thanks for the note about the tailgate!  I had this issue today on my 2021 Silverado 1500 High Country just 2 days after buying it used with 13000 miles.  The camera app wouldn't open and error symbol when in reverse.  Also, when tailgate was open, lifting up slightly would not get it to auto close.  Pushing the tailgate button would close it though.

I turned off the truck a few times, reset radio to factory defaults, and even erased user data, but still no camera app working. Interesting though was the rear view mirror camera was working the whole time.

Anyway, after reading this thread, I went out and slammed the tailgate closed nice and hard, and now it is all working as expected again!  Cameras all showing up, and tailgate closes automatically when lifting slightly.

Same issue. 2020 GMC 2500HD. Backup camera suddenly stopped working and never came back on. I live in a small town and the only dealer is known for incompetent service. I don't have much faith in their chances of fixing the issue. Has anyone out there come across a diagnosis? I've tried all the reset, closing the tailgate hard, etc. to no avail.

Same issue with my 2021 RST with 46K.  Worked fine yesterday.  Extremely hot today, and it sat out front all day.  Doubt thats it.  My 2011 Tahoe has never had an issue.

Read thru the threads and found 2 Quick Fixes:

1. Open the Tailgate, and Slam it shut - OMG it worked for me the 1st time.

2. Unhook the Battery at the Negative Terminal for an extended period.

I hope this is actually a one off.  We shall see.

My 2020 RST had camera issues with 33K miles and 2-years old.....

Technician found the issue(s), bad harness from the front to the rear with corroded terminals on it.

He stated there is supposed to be dummy pins on all unused slots and my harness didn't have this which allowed moisture to enter the connector and corrode it.

Replaced the harness and issue gone......just traded this truck 2-months ago for a '23 High Country.

2021 HD 2500 here. Camera system blacks out and shows the ! symbol with camera icon and a line though it. Sometimes it is working fine and sometimes it goes out partially or fully.

I dropped the truck off at GMC to diagnose and they said it is a bad camera module which is covered under my CPO warranty.

Hope this information helps someone....

UPDATE:  Problem has returned after replacement on the camera module computer box by the dealer. Will be taking the truck back for more troubleshooting.

UPDATE #2: Took the 2500HD back to GM two days ago. They could not get the camera system to fault (the problem is random). They went ahead and replaced the tailgate camera just to see if that solves the issue. So far 2 days of driving I have not had the camera system fault.....

UPDATE #3: Since the tailgate camera was removed and replaced the system has been working without a single issue for over a month now. This must have been the issue somehow...  (once or twice the system would show the tailgate cam view grayed out when it was not showing a total failure black screen which was the normal failure mode)

The dealer changed out the tailgate cam just to see if that was the issue as every time I took it the dealer the cameras would work fine... go figure...  But I am happy to report no more issues and I think this mystery is solved.....

Today I took my 2021 Sierra 1500 Denali through a car wash. After leaving I drove about a mile and parked the car in a parking lot where I backed into a spot. Came out and stopped at another store, did not shut the vehicle off and when I put it into reverse, I got the same  image on my screen. There are quite a few posts with this issue but as far as I can tell, nor resolutions.64139606041__DBCC7507-057D-4A21-A6D2-5D82234CBB75.fullsizerender.jpeg

    • I would have to read back to get a better picture in my mind of some of the other comments and what they were using for a driving scenario they based the fuel mileage off of. That is why the fuel mileage conversation is extremely difficult to make fair comparisons from. If I was to be living in town and only driving around town, light to light and some longer stretches that doesn't have a light every block, and the usual stop at a grocery store and the bank and so on and so forth, my fuel mileage even during the summer time would be so bad with my truck I don't even want to know how bad it would be !. Then add in winter time and idling to warm it up to clear the windows and driving through snowy streets etc, large heavy trucks with gas engines have NEVER been worth crap for fuel mileage and why some little pot licker of a car with wheelbarrow tires and a 1300 cc four cylinder non turbo engine was the ticket to using a mere fraction of the fuel over a full size pickup.    By the way my truck has the 34" tires as its a HC but not the BFG KO3 tires ( that was an option for my truck but the sales guy couldn't figure out what the tires actually were so that never got on the order until it was too late to change the truck order ). So what fuel mileage your getting actually sounds good for "town driving" and with my truck when I go to town the fuel mileage keeps increasing as I get closer to town because it takes quite a while to get the driveline oils warmed up ( and why it always shows better fuel mileage on the return trip from town because its already warmed up ) but once I am in town that fuel mileage average just keeps dropping the more I mess around town and then has to recover back to something reasonable again by the time I get home for an over all average.    I'd be curious what your sticker says for the factory weight of your truck, mine is close around that 7700 lb due to the options it has. But anyway the long and short is, vehicle weight, higher rolling resistance heavy tires and a hefty driveline and a relatively large gas engine make for crap fuel mileage in stop and go scenarios, all one can do is drive it easy off the line at each stop and as my dad had said over the years, drive like a raw egg is under your foot and that's the best one can do. Years back with a carbed engine and if the carb was getting a bit out of tune etc as would the ignition system, the fuel mileage on pickups with larger engines was just awful compared to what your getting. We pay the fuel price penalty for driving HD trucks over some little vehicle, that is the reality.
    • We had two Toyota’s with that engine in the mid 80s. We had 50 gallon fuel tanks, a toolbox full of tools, an air compressor and assorted parts for our equipment. We beat those up and down pipeline ROWs until we started buying diesel trucks. Then they became parts runners and first vehicles for our teenagers first cars. Our shop Forman wrecked them both two years apart when we hired him out of high school as an apprentice. Good thing he’s an excellent mechanic. It took awhile before he could be called a good driver.
    • I have a 2025 GMC Canyon Denali.   On a trip recently the engine failed.  The dealership diagnosed a bent valve and says there is a service bulletin that indicates to 'relace the engine'.  The truck only has about 14K miles and is under warranty.   The failure occurred 5/11/2026.   So far I have worked with GM Customer Assistance and Roadside Assistance.  Evidently no engines are available and nobody will offer a date when a new one will be.   Coming up on two months with no repair or timeline and no loaner from the dealership.   GMC Customer Assistance is 'ghosting' me and keeps closing the cases I've opened with no resolution.   Hoping someone can help me on how to escalate this issue.
