Low battery voltage while running

So I noticed my battery voltage gauge reading below 14V while the truck is running. 2020 Sierra AT4

 

seems like Half the time it reads below 13V, while running. 
 

I have verified the voltage with a multimeter. Running idle I was getting 12.6 volts. 
 

I know the alternator should be putting out 14.5 ish. 
 

does anyone know if there’s some sort of new feature that prevents the alternator from juicing the battery with full voltage?

I have noticed the gage below 14 and above 14 when running around. I think that is normal but just in case you might ask the dealership. There have been reports of the low battery causing problems with braking problems and idiot lites after the last 3 recalls are completed on these vehicles. Nothing confirmed, just what owners have mentioned.

Only needs to put out 14V when it is supplementing/charging.

The alternators can vary charge, it's normal and supposed to be like that.

I sure wish these vehicle manufacturers would print some kind of book or pamphlet describing the systems and features of the vehicle...sort of like an owner's manual or something like that

It doesn't sound exactly like what you're seeing, especially since you used a meter, but there's a service update; BULLETIN N192267870: BATTERY SAVING NOTIFICATION.

Basically, the computer thinks the battery is low and informs the drive (via text and email too). But since you used a meter, it might now help, unless the alternator stop charging? Not sure.

 

Anyway, it might be worth taking your vehicle to the dealer and having them do the update.
