Check it out there is a lot of info to be there..

 

There is a Chevy sales person (site sponsor) who will get you a status update but she needs an order number. US dealers cannot get anything on Canadian orders.  She only can give you the status code. She can't (nor can anyone at GM Chat) see anything about the order, just what stage its in per the system. 

 

The system updates overnight and is down on Sundays for routine maintenance (no access), so the next update will occur overnight Monday next week. The system is internal GM and not intended for public consumption.

It's not a 'live' update, as that isn't the real purpose of the system.

Best guess as to time from 3400 to 5000.....???

Too many variables in transportation to guess + you're at the mercy of the railroad. 

Obviously some locations will have much quicker deliveries than others.

 

As important as we think 'our' truck is, at somewhere around 1,000,000 pickups per year, that's about 4000 trucks/day that shippers are dealing with. 

 

I don't know what 'average delivery time would be, but if it's 3 weeks, then they've got 1,000,000year / 50weeks * 3 week average is about 60,000 on the move at any given time.

I ordered mine this morning 2020 Chevy Silverado LTZ Z71. I was told it would be built in FT Wayne and it should be here in 6-8 weeks. I want to thank all of you great people I have read near everyone posts for the last year or so. I was hell bend on a RST just could not order what I wanted had to go the LTZ route. I'm coming from a Black edition 2017 Chevy Silverado so I guess I have had enough all black and a little chrome might be nice

Double cab?

Yes a double cab. My kind of truck, my rear seats are folded up 99.9% of the time and I would like to not let anyone ride in the back ever. That space is for my stuff. All the great info I got on this site the dealer was even impressed I seem to know a lot about what I was ordering. This will be my last truck after 5 years or so I think maybe a Cadillac before I die. Never though I could afford a Cadillac but after buying a $53871.00 truck just maybe I can. This web site has a vast network of all things Chevrolet/ GMC truck. I read here a few hours every night.

Do you know where it was built? I know the farther away from you can mean it has to be put on rail cars and can take awhile. I asked the dealership how long and they said 6-10 weeks but it could be longer. I'm not sure they really know. Good luck bud.

My truck was built in fort wayne and was shipped by rail to a rail yard just north of Toronto. It took 3 weeks to arrive and take delivery once it was built and that time includes rail corridor closures due to pipeline protests.

I'm about 2 hours east of Flint.

It was still shipped by train. 

 

From when the order placed, more time was used by for train /truck/dealer than the time it took Flint to get it built.

I'm sure you don't here this very often I don't want it in 6 weeks I need more time. I'm 20 miles north of Grand Rapids, MI. I was told that they all come by truck and it would be at least 8 weeks but don't bet on it more like 10 weeks. I guess you take what you get then. Sure I'll be happy either way. Just would be nice to have my 2017 gone by then.

Don't know where it was built,when the order was placed they say 8-10 weeks until i see it or longer.

The dealer has no way of knowing with certainty how long it will take to get built and delivered.  They are all just giving a best guess estimate based on prior experience.   But many things can affect this;  work stoppages, parts shortages, option constraints, logistics, mother nature, and the most important delay, dealer allocations.

 

I forget where I got this but it explains the process;

This causes a lot of issues. When you place an order with a dealer, the status is 1100. UNTIL Chevrolet ACCEPTS the order, it just sits there at 1100. You don't have an order with GM at this point. You only have a dealer requesting an allocation for a slot in the production schedule. Dealer Allocation is simple to understand - GM changed its model for producing vehicles a few years' back. Dealers are now awarded allocation based on past performance, as well as other factors. If you are sitting at 1100 you are not in line yet for production. Your dealer MUST get GM to accept the order. When GM accepts the order, all the parts are available and will be allocated to your car build.

 

First, many dealers do not understand the allocation process.

 

Second, dealers are told at the beginning of every model year the number of units they are expected to order. This is their Guide Number, so called because it is intended to help a dealer "floor plan."

Third, many dealers confuse Guide Number with Allocation.

Fourth, dealers are told every other Thursday how many Allocations (a portion of the Guide Number) they can use over the following two weeks AND this number of orders will be divided over two weeks.

To summarize, say the dealer is given 50 units as a Guide,  that means about 1 unit every weekly ordering process from 2 units awarded in the every other week ordering process. If the dealer sells a dozen Camaros every year, change the 50 to 12 and reduce the bi-weekly consensus to conform. By the way, this awkward system meets laws and demands of court decisions.

When will my car ship?

You have better chances of picking winning lottery numbers than to know for sure when your car will ship. When you combine the QC issues with geographical delivery of cars (at the lowest possible cost so they need to aggregate deliveries - and they don't not use a first in first out methodology), this can be the most frustrating part of the whole SRE journey. There is no transparency to actual data. There is just generic codes and sometimes the whisper from "someone in the know". Your car may ship quickly, it may not. It will likely take longer the more rural you are and the lower the volume of cars your dealer sells.

My dealer explained the allocated process to me when I ordered. And I knew to ask about this by reading something on this forum. They said they had 7 more allocated gas 1500 trucks and that they were changing 1 of them to my order to make sure I get my truck. I have been dealing with the same dealer and salesman for 20 years they are very good to me.

    • Have considered installing a DC to DC charger in your camper to replace your isolator?  
    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
