Tyler Bruder Posted January 31, 2020 Posted January 31, 2020 My mom recently bought a 2016 Sierra 1500. I being a Sierra owner talked her into it. It has 60k miles on it and the is a weird shaking coming from it at around 70-85. My thought was because she had new tires on it that they needed to be balanced. A buddy of mine works for Mavis and balanced them and took it for a test and said the shaking was still there and seems to be coming from the rear of the truck. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? Any and all help is appreciated
m3n00b Posted January 31, 2020 Posted January 31, 2020 Do the rpms climb slightly every few seconds when the shaking happens? Sounds like transmission stutter.
diyer2 Posted January 31, 2020 Posted January 31, 2020 Look around this site. Lots of info about the shake.
HeySkippyDog Posted January 31, 2020 Posted January 31, 2020 I have three questions:Does it have 20" wheels and take 275/55R20 tires? If so, either Michelin tires or Goodyear Eagle LS2's will likely solve it. They are tire-sensitive on 20s.Does it have an 8 speed transmission? Those are known to be problematic on the K2.If it has a 6 speed, is the AFM enabled? I found that the cusp of transition between V8/V4 is right at that speed which makes the truck act strange. 5.3 V8, AFM off, 6 speed, 3.42, 18" wheels, 2wd here, no shakes. My 2014 on 20s had the shake, as did my dad's 2017 until they road-force balanced his tires.Sent from my SM-J810F using Tapatalk
L86 All Terrain Posted January 31, 2020 Posted January 31, 2020 Sell it and get a different one and test drive it for a whole day at highway speeds on different road surfaces, you bought a shaker. You'll spend $1,000's chasing that problem with no real solution.
ic3man5 Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 have a shop balance the drive shaft, should help a little bit. Replace Axle shafts after that.
