Keyed fuse in engine bay

Trying to find a keyed fuse in the engine bay but not having luck with my meter. Anyone know which one should be keyed? Trying to add a relay to power my road radio and booster. It's in a 2020 gmc 3500 Denali

How do you want to run this setup?

You can either tap into an existing ignition source OR create your own

GM has supplied you with a few options if you choose to do your own, you just need the terminated lead and fuses to start.

The issue with tapping into a source already there is the fuse block is mostly powered by B+, then it’s sent to the corresponding module and the module decides when/how to use it. It’s not like the older electrical systems where it was mostly ignition + then sent to the modules or subsystems.

It’s up to you how complicated you want to do it, looking at the diagrams I’d be leaning towards just running your radio off the battery and having a on/off switch on the dash for the relay

I want it so all accessories are keyed. We've had issues with people leaving radios on and killing vehicles in past so so I like all accessories to be keyed

Ok so you’re going to need to take apart your fuse block and go to your local GM dealer and order terminated leads, are you comfortable with this?

If so I’ll give you some further direction

Hmm yeah that may be more then I want to do lol, is there any keyed sources Inside I can steal a line off to run my relay

Take apart a fuse block? What a waste of time and potential for screwing up pins and invalidating warranty.

 

Been using these for over 30 years. Easiest way is to replace the keyed heated steering wheel fuse, delay circuit RDO fuse or any other controlled fused circuit with an add a fuse tap keeping the original fuse for the steering wheel and using the second fuse for the pigtail to accessory. Less than a few minutes to install.......provides an instant reliable fused tap to the positive supply then negative lead to any ground and easily reversed without a trace.

He was wanting an underhood install, I was going to suggest adding the 10a fuse for ign power GM supplies in one of their blank spots and going to the dealer and get a terminated lead to plug into the block with. You’d take the block off, grab the connector and through the back insert the terminated lead. Then install the 10A fuse where there is a slot. This would provide you with IGN B+ without worrying about tapping into a data line or anything like that. Also I wasn’t sure about what kind of load you’d be requiring for your radio.

This is the correct upfitter way to install IGN B+



You could use the 39, 48 slots or whatever one you wanted.

GM p/n for the terminated lead is type 2 and it’s 19332366

However if you wanted to do what the other post said and tap into the heated steering wheel module IGN B+ the next post will have the diagram for it so you know what to look for, it just wouldn’t be underhood.

I personally like tomcats idea with the fuse interceptor deal, and running a wire to the engine compartment if needed. Unsure if they make those for the new fuses GM uses, they’re small but have long legs. I’m sure they do!

i do have one of those already for the new style fuse, will look at those fuses, are they in the driver side or in the passenger side fuse panel?

I may look into this for the next trucks we rig up, but right now i need to do the quickest option to get the truck on the road and working!

Looks like the heated steering wheel fuse is only on when the trucks running. I'm hoping to find a fuse that runs when the truck is in accessory mode as well but not having much probing anything

tlaw91, that looks very easy and will look completely factory with it's own complete circuit.

It looks like that is exactly what that fuse block is supposed to be used for.
