3k Mile OCI

3K on this change of Red Line and it looks just a bit darker than when I put it in. No where near brown yet. Very transparent. About the color of honey on the dipstick. 95% of these miles are highway at 60 mph. That helps allot. Sounds like 3K is a good OCI for your driving type.

There is a scientific supply store not to far away. I'd like to obtain some screw top test tubes and pull a tube every thousand miles and just watch it.

I was going to go 5k intervals like my other GDI”s I have but with the lifter problems I hear about don’t feel like chancing it. Oil and filter are cheap. Oil change cost me approx $22 and 30 min of my time.

Take that peace of mind. Dealers push the long intervals to save $$$$$ on free oil changes. Then the rest of usa thinks its ok now. Used to be 3k across all the manufacturers... Now they dont wanna see you for half a year lol

Been using the Rotella Gas truck oil for about a year now...5,000 mile intervals, truck has 47,000 on it now. Love...this...oil.

Its the only oil I’ve used that doesn’t use anything/very little between oil changes. Haven’t noticed any difference in color deterioration compared to other brands...stays pretty clean until around 4,000 miles.

Previous oils used were Pennzoil Platinum (same manufacturer as Rotella), Carquest synthetic, Napa synthetic and one oil change from the dealer (no idea what junk they put in it).

Hey I have been tempted to use this in other vehicles, but always related it for use with diesel engines. Currently I use valvoline full synthetic high mileage and have been thinking of making the switch. Have you noticed the engine running smoother, better throttle response, or any change in mpg? Also whats the cost per OC? Thanks! Been looking for a solid review.

What I’ve noticed is that I use less oil between oil changes, and that to me is huge. I haven’t really noticed any change in fuel economy - although whenever I do an oil change I get a slight uptick in fuel economy for the first 500 miles or so (with any oil I use). Noise/smoothness...yeah maybe, not sure. Maybe a slight improvement.

I think it’s a good oil, don’t be confused with the name “Rotella” on this one, it’s for gas engines, not diesel (like they’re known for). I’d recommend trying it for sure. And they are running a rebate...if you guy it at Walmart it’s roughly $22 for a jug...then you’ll get an $11 dollar rebate check from Rotella. Can’t beat this deal. And they will send that check if you fill out their form through their website.

What you’re noticing on the first 500 + miles, smoother, happier motor, it’s the additive package that’s in the oil, until they start to break down.

I meant it was right up to full mark before the change. Oil was dark brown at the least. All my driving is hard stop and go constantly.

Definitely no more than 3k mile OCI’s with that type of driving. Kudos to you for your proactive maintenance. [emoji1303]

For 2020 Walmart is not a participating retailer. When I submitted mine amazon and Walmart were. I checked the status and got denied due to invalid retailer. I sent shell and email stating their practices were deceptive with a screen shot of my submission for 2020. Next email from them was we are processing your rebate. The rebate is only $10 per 5qt up to $40 max.

Wow, I’ll only buy it at Walmart (because it’s the greatest savings). Do it all last year without issue. Second guessing if I’ll try it again...I guess it really doesn’t matter...I have 52 quarts of the stuff in my garage. I jumped on the autozone clearance in December (only tome I didn’t buy it at Walmart). It was $2 dollars a quart, plus rebate = free.

Well its still priced decently at wallyworld. I'm going to give it a shot next oil change. I always figured if the diesel guys like it the gas version is probably just as good.

I used T6 religiously on my 2016 DMax but there is a difference in protective additives between them. So that said, “heads up” Don’t go for the cheapest, Rotella made a name for itself from the higher protective T5 and T6’s formulas and not from basic lowest required protection.
