3k Mile OCI

Decided to change oil at 3k miles. Had used Rotella Gas Truck 0w-20. Zero oil was burnt. AFM was off the whole time. I know others had issues with oil burn.

Can't go wrong with Shell Rotella Gas Truck motor oil and Wix/XP (same as NAPA Gold/Platinum) oil filters.

I meant it was right up to full mark before the change. Oil was dark brown at the least. All my driving is hard stop and go constantly.

Can't go wrong with Shell Rotella Gas Truck motor oil and Wix/XP (same as NAPA Gold/Platinum) oil filters.  

I like gas truck. I use the ac Delco filters. Never had a bad experience with them.

I always used AC Delco oil filters, until they came out with their new 'e-core' oil filters (the ones that end with the letter E on the filter number) a few years back, as those were designed in the interests of cost-cutting and easier recycling over their filtration abilities.  But as long as your GM vehicle is covered by the factory warranty, you can use them without worry, because if anything happens, the repairs are on the General.

When they came out with the Ecore filters is also the same time they increased the by-pass setting to 22psi.  Running the old style PF63 means it has the lower setting and not recommended.  

I get the PF63E on Ebay for $4.00 a filter and by them by the case.  I change oil on three Traverse's so I go through them often.

Ah dark brown is normal. Black is meh questionable. Its not gonna stay clear very long regardless.

I can see them having problems in those types of cars, but the kind of driving that these trucks do I think the ecore is fine. We are not drag racing the vehicles , well at least most of us are not. [emoji16]

I use the AMSOIL EaO17 on my vehicles.  Most of my customers don't want to do extended oil changes so the AC Delco works just fine.

3K on this change of Red Line and it looks just a bit darker than when I put it in. No where near brown yet. Very transparent. About the color of honey on the dipstick. 95% of these miles are highway at 60 mph. That helps allot. Sounds like 3K is a good OCI for your driving type.

 

There is a scientific supply store not to far away. I'd like to obtain some screw top test tubes and pull a tube every thousand miles and just watch it.
