Tire pressure monitor system question

I currently have a 2007 Silverado, and have aftermarket rims with no sensors in them for summer use. As soon as I install these rims, the TPMS light will light up on the dash, and stays on until I install the original rims in the fall.

My Daughter has a Jeep, and when she puts her aftermarket rims on, the tpms light will go on, but after a day or so it will shut off and not come back on.

Next week I will be picking up my 2020 Silverado, and would like to install my aftermarket rims on it.

My question is will the new generation trucks keep the TPMS light on all summer?

I would also like to know what frequency do the new trucks use for their wheel sensors? I have 4 new ones here that were intended for my 07, but I never got around to installing them.

Thanks for any replies.

Every time wheels are swapped/changed the sensors have to be re-learned. Also, the sensors have changed from 433mhz to 315mhz for the 2019 trucks so older sensors won't work. Be sure the wheels you get are for the 2019 to clear the new larger 4 piston calipers.

As long as you point at the sensor on the edge of the rim, and not at valve stem like expensive relearn tools.Thought mine wasn't working until I pointed at sensor.....but your right awesome tool.

Dodge/Chrysler ram there sensors are auto relearn as long as the sensors in the wheels are programmed for the proper vehicle the vehicle will learn that new sensors were installed. Wish GM/Ford would do this every time we rotate tires on GM/Ford I have to reprogram locations not that it takes long.

I do have the tool, and it does work great!

I still would like to find out if the TPMS warning light stays on when wheels without TPMS sensors are used. I know the older trucks would set off the light, but was hoping GM engineers would have followed what the Jeep engineers did and that was to ignore the TPMS system if no sensors are located.

The reason i'm researching this is because I have a set of Centerline billet rims that I want to use on my 2020 truck. The problem is that sensor do not physically work on these rims, and I don't want to drive with the MIL light on. Would be nice to be able to disable this system.

Yes it will stay on it will flash telling you there is a fault in the system then it will stay on and solid

Thanks for the clarification. I kinda figured, but was hoping the engineers would have gotten their crap together by now especially with everyone using aftermarket wheels.

The problem is the TPMS system if federally mandated safety feature as the backup camera has become.

I guess I never saw that memo.

It seems that if you choose to run wheels that "sensor do not physically work on these rims" then you get to see the light lit up to remind you to check your air pressure the old fashioned way.

They did.  People buy sensors for aftermarket wheels.  It helps people not get dead.

As I said; "THEY DON"T FIT THESE RIMS"

I wonder how they get away with Jeeps?
