dan.hill Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 I'm having a strange, random issue with my remote start and I'm curious if it's been happening to anyone else. Started when I tried to start the truck ('19 AT4 6.2L) with the onstar app. It failed, said not to try again and to start truck normally with start button. Did so, and the CEL was on. Got an email saying an engine/transmission issue was detected and to go to dealer within 7 days. Did so, they did a software download and all was good. 2 days later, same issue after trying to start with the app again. Except the CEL randomly cleared and I could use the app again after awhile. Over the last few days the CEL randomly comes on after a failed attempt to start with the app or key fob then will clear eventually. I uninstalled/reinstalled the app after speaking with onstar but that didn't seem to help anything. I have another appt at the dealer later today so I'll see what they say. I really like the remote start with the app so I hope this gets figured out quickly.
diyer2 Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 I think remote starting this way is a known issue. What's the advantage over using the fob?
dan.hill Posted February 19, 2020 Author Posted February 19, 2020 That's disappointing. I tried searching on here and google, but wasn't coming up with much. The biggest advantage to me is range. I work in a large plant and at shift change I can start it with the app from anywhere and by the time I get changed and out to the parking lot, truck is warm. The key fob doesn't compare. 2
Booger T Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 I use mine all the time and have never had an issue. The advantage using the app over the fob is that you can remote start from anywhere, very handy if your not close enough to vehicle for fob to work.
aseibel Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 I have a K2, but use the same app as you. I don't think the issue is with the app, but rather some electrical gremlin in the truck. You said it has also occurred when using the fob. It could be something like low voltage reading that is preventing the truck from starting remotely. I can't remember exactly, but i think there are a list of requirements that must be met in order to remote start. your truck is triggering something, whether accurately or not, is throwing an error. Are you certain the battery is in good condition? ground cables tight? a lot of weird things happen when the voltage is messed up.
dan.hill Posted February 19, 2020 Author Posted February 19, 2020 You may be on to something. It does happen with the app or the fob. The issues started not long after I had 3 recalls done. One of the recalls was for a potentially loose ground cable I think. I'll mention that at the dealership this afternoon.
dan.hill Posted February 21, 2020 Author Posted February 21, 2020 Looks like it was a bad knock sensor causing the CEL and preventing the remote start. Dealer replaced it and it has been working fine. Hopefully that is the end of it. 1

redwngr Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 Seems like this one is resolved, but fwiw, The vehicle cannot be remote started if: . The RKE transmitter is inside the vehicle or if the key is in the ignition. . The hood is not closed. . There is an emission control system malfunction and the lamp is on. . The ignition is in any mode other than off. . The hazard warning flashers are on. . Two remote starts or a remote start with an extension have been used. . The vehicle is not in P (Park). If running under a remote start it will shut off if low oil pressure or high coolant temp occurs.
disneybaker Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 I have a question, you all say the “onstar app” I stopped using the onstar app a long time ago when the my chevy app was introduced, onstar told me the onstar app was discontinued, is the onstar app you refer to actually the my chevy app?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I thinks there is a caddy, Buick etc. just a cover as statedSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

dan.hill Posted March 6, 2020 Author Posted March 6, 2020 I thought so as it has been working fine for the last week but the exact same problem happened again this morning. Back to square one I guess.
