Cleaning Advise

I have a 2019 Silverado 2500HD Duramax.  My daughter had caught some of that stupid diesel boost under the rear seat and it opened up after being crushed.  The liquid from the 32oz bottle is everywhere, the rear area of the truck has the heavy duty vinyl floor.  The liquid is under that vinyl floor and soaked into the insulation or whatever it is under that vinyl.  Anyone have any idea on how in the heck to get that cleaned up? Ive tried letting it dry, I've tried clearing it out with a shopvac, running fans in the cab.  The smell is still there and its horrid.

Thanks

Man, that's a tough one.

I guess you could try soaking it with a degreaser...like Super Clean.  It's pretty cheap and available at Wal-mart.  Lot's of videos on it and professional detailers use it as an all-in-one cleaner...everything from interior (diluted) to tires.  Get that and a cheap spray bottle at Wal-Mart.

You will be into it for less than $15 (gallon size)

It's a great all-purpose cleaner for cars.  You can even use it to detail your engine bay.

Sadly though, I think even after that you may just have to wait for the smell to dissipate.

I have had luck in the past with Febreze spray (a lot) sprayed into the seat after spilling crab soup on my front seat in a past truck but with it in the insulation under the vinyl floor you might have to do a rip out and clean or put in new as you may never get it out completely.

the old man who taught me cabinetmaking taught me right. You can spend 3 times the amount of time trying to find a magical method or do it right   . Assuming it is as bad as you say, I would think one would have to remove and replace the material under the vinyl.  The time spent trying to find a quick fix could be spent taking care of it correctly.

Very wise words and I totally agree.  I often find myself a victim of looking for cheaper ways to complete a task knowing I'd probably be better off spending the extra up front.  I enjoy a challenge but I also know when it's time for a professional or more money.  Masking the odor or leaving the underlayment saturated do not solve the problem.  On a high end vehicle such as a new DMax, I'd have the flooring professionally replaced.  It may amount to an insurance claim but it wont continue to haunt Op.

I am familiar with these products and you will never get that smell out until you remove and replace the flooring.

Back in the day milk came in glass jugs one broke on the floor of my first new car. Full gallon of milk in the middle of summer. Oh yea. Ever after replacing the entire carpet and under batting; on a hot day...whew! Gets in the seams and in cracks....yuck!

I was introduced to a product for cleaning carpet called capture. It’s a dry carpet cleaner and deodorizer. There is a spray you can buy with it for spot help. My father in-law and I have condos we least to vacation rentals. I haven’t seen a stain or smell it hasn’t fixed yet. I use it all the time. My carpet in my home is 30 years old. Still looks new.
