weird cold start issue

Recommended Posts

I have a 2013 Sierra, 4.8 liter. On a cold startup the motor will turn over, it wont start but when you turn the key off, it will continue to crank for a couple of seconds then will start up and run for a couple of seconds. Most times after that it will start up on the next crank. No problems starting after the motor is warm or on warm days.

Has anyone ever seen this issue?

Any resolution to fix it?

Thanks

I have a 2012 with a 5.3 , it won’t cold start right away. Cleaned the air cleaner and MAF sensor and intake and still doing it. But not as bad and after it’s warmed up it start s right away ??????????

Fuel pressure? Might need a new pressure regulator?

See if you prime the fuel system twice before starting, if it starts right away.

For what it's worth, most newer vehicles like this you only have to click the key over the start position and the starter will keep spinning until the engine is running. You don't have to hold the key in the start position on the first time you do it.

thanks everyone for the info.  It does seem to do it more often when its cold and damp out. I'll take a look at the solenoid and I'll try priming the fuel pump to see if that makes any difference. I have cleaned the MAF sensor
