If a dealer is offering you 30k, do your homework, they are screwing you on the other end.
How so? I see nothing that tells me otherwise. Kbb is $28k

How so? Do your research on the vehicle you are purchasing...what people are actually paying for that vehicle right now. Rebates, out the door price. That’s the “other end”.

Dealers will often give you “more” in trade to trick you into thinking you got a good deal, then they simply won’t give you the money off on the other end. Happens every single day. Everyday.

Seems you have your mind made up.

IMO

First establish the price of the new truck.

Now you know the best price they will give you.

Don't mention a trade in.

Then bring up trade in.

I agree with Doublebase. People allow the dealers to jive the numbers around to their favor.

:)

So $42 + the $22 you owe is $64 of debt. How deep hole you figure you can fill? Someone is going to get a really nice truck and your getting a mountain of debt and a stock truck. How long before the modify bug bites? How much did you spend on the mods you did? You're going to throw that money away. I've never had enough money to do a trade like this and go, "Meh".

Pretty much.  Sometimes the high trade works in your favor and sometimes not.  When I bought my 2015 Silverado I had a 2013 F150 I bought 18 months prior and paid 32k out the door for.  It was a weird oddball XLT extended cab with a 6.2 in it so not a common truck.  Everyone at the time was offering around 13k in rebates on a finance deal plus then whatever else you could negotiate on the GM trucks.  When I mentioned trade in they would offer me about 23k for the Ford at the highest.  One dealer though did better and I say that's why you watch.  They offered an initial 9500 off the new truck but then offered 30k for my trade... well you do the math... still better than anyone else.  I ended up having to threaten to walk when I got to the dealer with my trade in as they of course changed their minds miraculously but I got my deal in the end.

It's all a numbers game... shop around asking first on an out the door price then bring up the possibility of a trade in after... you will find something.

42k after your trade?

That truck is going for 56k out the door with rebates in my area. And that was before all this madness hit. I’d shop around.

I don’t know much about these particular trucks, but here’s one near me.

 Brand new out the door.

It appears that way.

It’s obviously a buyer’s market right now, BUT that changes dramatically when you have to trade something in. Because in a sense you are now not really the “buyer”, you’re also now the seller. And they will take full advantage of that.

My financial advice is to trade down to a cheaper truck and cut your debt. a six year old truck should be paid off... you will need financial flexibility if you keep it, to fix it. Vehicles are such a lousy use of capital. If you use it for work - and can expense it, that is one thing. but, please be careful with trading these $50k trucks, the taxes, the insurance and upkeep will ruin you, unless you really have the scratch to do it...

I'm wondering how come you still owe 22G on a six year old truck.

Also wondering this.. that’s an intense amount left.

Did you do 120 month or what? Is that possible?

I would finish paying it off then evaluate your financial situation bc from the sound of it you dug yourself into a hole when you bought the truck in 2014.

Also something seems not right with the number they gave you for trade in. Drive out (February 2019) for my SLT 2018 brand new was 38k.. msrp was like 54. I think 30 would be a stretch.

    • I Wouldn't Know Where to Begin    Oh I know where I would begin but I'm just one of over eight billion people on this rock. Eight billion versions of where the goal post is. How large it should be. How far to kick from. What ball is the right ball. Elevation. Age.....are you getting the point? It isn't about disagreeing with one individual. It's about agreeing only with one individual. One's self.   Agreement comes when multiple people hold the same point already. THAT is the goal of an education. Building the Social Contract. That thing that allows us to all read this sentence. We've agreed on the alphabet and how to arrange those letters into words we agree upon whose meanings hold true for everyone entering into that contract. Those words arranged into a sentence form an idea and several sentences strung together in a paragraph convey an argument for or against or inform the reader of a state, condition or perhaps reveal a things nature. Paint a word picture. Make oneself known.    This contract is not limited to words although they are often explained by words. Things like numbers and their usefulness. Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Music, Art and so on.    The frequency of middle C (C4) is 261.63 Hz. We build on that to make music we all can enjoy even if we all can not compose or play. You don't have to master it to make it enjoyable and useful.    So why is the Beginning so difficult? Why is agreement so elusive?   Everyone "Signs" the contract (when receiving that education in obtaining it)  but fewer and fewer in this world have any intention of living by that contract. They find exploiting that contract more advantageous. Disruption. With intent. Without intent. In Ignorance. In your face. With a double dog dare you. With a hold my beer. In resistance to that contract and in spite how it looks on us. It permeates the very air we breath.    In this way the contract is subject o advantage. Abide by it when it serves you, disregard it when it doesn't. Unpredictable and self-serving. Corrosive.....Toxic........   It says a lot about a persons character to disregard the contract, the truth, first principles. None of it good.        ********************************************************   https://medicine.yale.edu/news-article/character-vs-personality-who-we-are-and-who-we-aspire-to-be/   Just an interesting article.
    • It costs $5,250 for the Yukon Nightfall option (black wheels, emblems and illuminated black GMC grill badge). What a "deal".
    • I keep getting the above error message on my 25 Sierra.  If I reset the infotainment unit (via the phone hang up button) it will work again for a day or 2.   But I dont want to do have to reset  all the time. Works fine in my 2023 Corvette. On both vehicles I connect wirelessly.   I have a Google Pixel 10 Pro XL, phone is up to date.  Any Ideas.  See attached
    • LOL, its thrown a few people because this item is being talked about in the gas part of the HD forum. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to put a very brief wording in your profile with the year/GM or Chev/2500 or 3500/ and yes the 6.6 Duramax. When I joined this forum I could see the confusion ensuing for my own truck unless I had it listed with my chosen name handle unless one has a few vehicles that apply to a GM forum as that becomes confusing as well. Anyway its all good, makes for a little forum excitement 😉
    • Gasgacinch, James Gaskets. Good stuff. High tac to help hold the gasket in place while assembling parts. Fills minor surface imperfections. Slightly elastic. Gasoline / coolant / oil proof. Very handy stuff. Nothing like RTV.
