Hi!

So, quick question from a novice.. Got a 2020 Silverado duramax. When I put the light switch in "parking light" the low beam comes on.. There's no difference in parking lights and low beam.. Is there a setting I've missed? This happens even when the car is in park.. I've seen a couple of other trucks were only the small "c stripe" comes on when the parking lights are on.. It's a Canadian trucks if that makes any difference..

In the past the design of some models used the low beam as the parking light but at greatly reduced power.....if this is the case switching from parking lamp to low beam should brighten the bulb to full output.

That's the thing, I can't really see any difference in brightness.. ?

Do believe it is a Canadian law that it works like that.

I remember other posts from Canadian members asking similar questions.

Canadian law is DRL is on when out of park. If there are no dedicated DRLs then the low beams must come on. Usually if you start the truck and do not put it out of park, you can turn them off by turning the auto lights to off momentarily. When you then go put of park the light will come back on.

Did you find a resolution. Just got mine in Texas and is doing the same. Won't shut off headlights when switches to parking lights

Are you turning the switch all the way left to shut off automatic lighting? When the display confirms auto headlights are off, then you should be able to turn on just the park lamps by moving the switch to that setting. If you don't turn off auto first, I think it runs whatever "auto" mode it thinks is correct for conditions regardless of switch input. At least, that's how my last two GM vehicles worked.

You can't turn the auto headlights off on Canadian-spec trucks. Been that way for a while.

Welcome to the site.

What is the first digit in your VIN number?

Could be a Canadian truck that has made it to the states.
