Well mainly not going right now because the US / Canada border is closed to not essential travel. I can fly but I can't drive. That is the main reason. If the border opens we may try a few months later on.

Well! That certainly a good reason.

I bought my last cell phone about 5 yrs ago and my wife has had good service from her phone for over 10 years.  Our internet provider is offering an unbeatable deal on cell service so we decided it was time to upgrade our service and phones.  I knew this would be a time consuming task but I'll never get more time than I have now! ? The task had an added variable of us purchasing identical, unlocked phones.  I spent an inordinate amount of time researching and sorting through the myriad of available choices.  As with everything these days, I'm in no rush!   Thursday, we made our decision and were both delighted with our choice.  Friday morning I was up at 4:30am personalizing my phone.  I went on a quick errand around 9:00am and dropped my brand new phone on the driveway upon my return.  The lens shattered and casing was bruised.  The height of the drop was from the seat of my truck and the phone was completely covered in the holster I often clip to my belt.  (I'm old)   I keep thinking of my last phone flying off the back of my motorcycle in this same case without receiving any marks.  This happened twice before I changed my habits.   I spent so much time making sure we were up to date with technology and I didn't think to compare physical strength between phones.  Anyway, a new lens has been ordered by our local cell phone repair shop and heavy duty protective cover is coming from Amazon.  It just goes to show you that you can't judge a cover by its book!!!  (sorry)  Happy Thanksgiving, Canada!

I have an iPhone 5. My second one. My wife bought an 11. It took her 5. I hate it the facial recognition feature plus completely different from my 5. My local battery plus location can service the battery and lens. I use my phone for everything. As a computer, music, gps, everything. It’s small enough to live in my pocket or on my cradle in my rides. I don’t want or need a phone as big as a notebook. I can even and do watch tv on it when not at home. Long live the iPhone 5.

Our stage in life and having children living in other countries prevented us from having family at our Thanksgiving meal we enjoyed last night.  Covid kept friends and neighbors in their own homes.  This did not prevent Mrs. Donstar from preparing a Turkey dinner like we were entertaining a full family gathering.  Dinner was fabulous and eaten while we sat in our recliners enjoying each other and our memories. I know Thanksgiving is over a month away for most members of this forum but I wish to share my experience.   I can honestly tell you, without reservation, that funneling all of the love and effort generally intended for many into each other made for an unforgettably enjoyable and powerfully moving experience.  In anticipation of the event your mind tells you that you need to have others at your meal.  Your planning is consumed with thoughts of how to make the event special for your guests. Allow yourself the freedom to focus your attention on the one(s) in your home who mean the most.  You may surprise yourself with a most unforgettably fabulous event!  We did!

Do to recent developments. The realization that the flu is more dangerous than covid to people under 65. My thanksgiving will be normal. With the exception of my 83 old mother in law. Damn.[emoji1787]I have a question though. Maybe the wrong place, sorry. How long is Covid season? I’ve gotten the flu after flu and cold season. Just wondering.[emoji3166]

Definitely watching this closely. I have a machine run off in December in Windsor, luckily we are considered essential. Otherwise it might be a video conference.

I have become a little more obsessive over annoyances now that I have the time to follow-up on such issues.   My mantra once upon a time was "Don't sweat the small stuff".   My truck has run flawlessly but several months ago, a random clunk was causing me concern.  It hasn't happened for awhile but I wanted it addressed before my powertrain warranty expired.  I had it checked again on Saturday.  The tech commented, "no faults seen at this time.".  There was no mention of my "clunk" concern on the work order and the inspection was visual.   This response was inconsistent with the level of my concern over a potential future major problem.  I decided to compose a lengthy note to the service manager and politely express my disappointment over such a cursory investigation into my problem.   Well, he must read this forum because the first thing he wants me to do is to bring the truck back for a re-torque of the leaf springs!  If I wasn't an avid fan of this forum, I would have thought this to be a bizarre response!  Anyway, he assured me if this doesn't help, they'll proceed to the next step.   Now, at least, I'm in their sequence of events to eradicate my phantom clunk!

I use a the dealership for almost nothing but recalls and even then, only if it's something I or my "trusted" local shop can't handle or I can't live without. I've heard there are good dealerships out there. I just haven't ever experienced one that doesn't lie from the heart, abuse my equipment and ignore my request/concerns and/or blame me for crap they break. I'm old and that's allot of attempts so I envy those who have a solid relationship with their dealer.

On this spring 'clunk' or 'popping' noise we traced mine to the front spring perch rubber isolator slip/stick motion when it's wet. Naturally the drivers side so the gas tank has to come down so after a few of those....I live with it. Only happens a few times a year in the rain mainly.

"I live with it. Only happens a few times a year"  I do/will too but will enjoy the thrill of the hunt.  It usually requires a new challenge to let the old one drop.  Right now I've found myself preoccupied with a brand new broken cell phone!   Shattering the screen 18 hours after purchase has rendered me very knowledgeable about cell phone screen replacement!  It absolutely amazes me how popular it is to break your cell phone screen!  This is the first one I've broken in 22 years of carrying a cell phone but there are businesses in my small city that thrive on repairing dropped phones!

Okay this is weird. My last post above was suppose to be posted to the spring popping thread. My history does not even show this post above in the log for Thursday or any other day.

So the wife has decided 'we' need to do something about this COIVID-15 (plus) we've each put on. Doc suggested some form of the mini fast method which in all reality is calorie restriction. Started around the first of the month and so far I've lost 12 pounds. I can't do a true fast as some of my medications require food but on those days I eat something like an apple and a few nuts just before pill time and it seems to work okay.

This thing started with a three day fast. Just water. Then we eat for 3 and fast 1. Me being me, I've been keeping charts. I'll warn you up front about dieting with your spouse. Men just loose weight faster than women and they get testy about it.

This has got me back in the kitchen. Not sure that's a good thing. ?

Congratulations on your loss!  We struggle with the Covid15 as well and I'm going to share your plan with the best half.  I chuckled with the loss discrepancy between you and your wife because this has periodically caused frustration in our house. Losing a pound requires a far greater commitment from her.   I love the TV commercials of all the unfulfilled weight loss and personal improvement goals generated by more home time during this pandemic. Guilt is a powerful motivator!    I'll start tomorrow....?

The wife and I got back to weigh watchers just before the covid. We also added 15 hour fasting. I lost 20 lbs my wife 7. I have my eggs at 10 fruit smoothie at 1. 5-6 dinner. I’m a grazer my go to snack is thin pretzels along with apples and frozen cherries. Keeps me sane. Saturday nights are eating out and a little bad nights. Sometimes we split a bad meal. Such as chicken fried rib eye. And a treat at home. I used to drink margaritas when I had my drink treat. Now it’s flavored whiskey and a couple of pretzels. I don’t feel like I’m on a diet. The little things butter, creamer, salad dressing are things that really matter. My only real miss is bread. I got use to it.

    • 286,740 Mile Services   8/6/2026   New AC Compressor. Refrigerant oil and dye, evacuate and charge system.  New exhaust system from cat back.  New Iridium plugs plus replace #3 coil Repair/rewire headlamp wiring (passenger side) and replace all forward bulbs. Polish lenses of both assemblies.  Pull rear rotors, clean and adjust parking assembly. Inspect, clean and grease front calipers. Check pads and shoes.  4 wheel power bleed of brake system. Dot 4 Reset idle speed 50 rpm higher New Serpentine belt.    Will need new pads in the rear in about 5K more miles.    Tax Title and License out the door just short of a grand.    AC clutch had bitten the dust. 1 year warranty on the pick and save replacement. Thing will make a Polar Bear cry Uncle.  He spent quite some time on the wiring. It was in the harness and he does nothing half. I got off cheap. I have considerable more light down the road. Sylvania Silver Star replacements.  Gas seal between the porcelain and shell of plug #3 was blown, cooked the coil. That was the cold miss.  Love the new exhaust. I can sneak into the neighborhood again.  Nice to have a working parking brake again. Belle Tire never got it done. That was disappointing.    This was one of her bigger bills and still way cheaper than a payment even given the oil consumption. This thing cost me under a hundred a month in repairs and normal routine costs. What is my incentive to replace it? 🤔
    • hello I recently bought a 2012 gmc 1500 with a 5.3 and have a AFM disabler on it I'm interested in doing a cam but I'm worried if I remove the AFM system I will fail smog does anyone have info if they are able to detect that or a work around to it (not talking about hot smogging) please let me know thank you
    • Update. I started chasing down my symptoms. Started first with pulling valve covers and looked at everything. Everything looked good and couldn't hear or feel anything different. Then a compression test. 240 psi or really close on each cylinder. I was worried I was a tooth off of timing. Not bad for an engine with 173,000. Granted I did put new heads on. I sprayed water around the injector area to see if I could hear a change. Nothing. I hooked up my new hp tuner which I should have done in the first place but I don't really know what I'm looking at just yet but am learning. I noticed the fuel trims were way off so that told me I have to have either a bad injector or exhaust leak. New injectors, so I did the shop vac on blower and in the tail pipe. Sprayed soapy water and found the exhaust flange on the drivers side was leaking. I didn't think it would be that considereding I pulled the heads and left the manifolds attached. I did have the transmission replaced not long ago. They must have not seated them properly but I guess I didn't notice. I put in new gaskets on both sides. Which by the way isn't a bad job but I had a hard time getting them to seal right. Took two attempts. Reset the fuel trims and the ticking is gone, engine runs smooth and acceleration has improved. Got to feel the real difference with that stage 1 cam. It's not that big of a difference but it does add a little more. It feels like how the truck should have been from the factory.
    • Can it still be Assembled I?    Stribeck says that we need a certain amount of viscosity under conditions of load and velocity to prevent two surfaces of a know roughness from tearing each other asunder. And we have marketing trying to tell the masses that those two surfaced require less of that commodity due to more exact limits being placed on the same old clearances. We also know that there are limits to how hard something can before it becomes to brittle to be viable and to smooth to 'wet' the surface and that both of those conditions have been known and met since about the Second World War.    That viscosity value shook out at 10 centistokes at 212 F just under a hundred years ago.  Give this a look: [Anton Parr]     What is advertised is the Kinematic viscosity (mm2/s) or that which has been density adjusted but the value we are after is the dynamic viscosity (mPa.s) or true viscosity. You can see that this number is dependent on density thus base stock and temperature. You can also see that an SAE 30 doesn't reach that value in this example. However an SAE 30 that is at the upper end of the SAE 30 range; 12.5 cSt (mm2/s), might. 12.5 * .83 = 10.375 (mm2/s). If you could find an SAE 30 at the upper end these days.   Then there is the complication of viscosity modifiers or VII or VM, whatever you wish to call them. Polymers added to very thin base oils, perhaps 3 to 6 cP oils, that will meet the SAE *W30 spec at 'tested' shear rates and 100 C/212F  target temperature. So a polymer fortified base that is a fraction of the 10 cP requirement Stribeck insist upon.   This could be all well and good if those polymers didn't have two very problematic 'features'. They shear or loose viscosity both 1.) permanently and 2.) temporality. And they do both omitted in the advertised data with the distinct  purpose of deceiving the consumer of the actual operating state of the fluid. I've shown the example of Warren Oils COSTCO 10.91 cSt 5W30 formuation several times where the 100 C HTHS value is 6.9 cP!! That's the temporary shear down and with and SSI or shear stability index of 9.4 cSt. Note the intentional deception in using mixed units?    After a short while that 9.4 cSt oil has a viscosity corrected dynamic value of 7.8 cP. But as the SSI is still within the range of an SAE *W30 whose lower value is 9.3 cSt.    This allows them to continue to call this SAE 16 weight oil a 30 weight, the cake, and still meet the API requirements for fuel efficiency IMPROVEMENT mandated by the EPA. The eating of the cake. By the time you've worn out your motor doing the responsible thing by adhering to the warranty requirements, (the stick), you get deprived of the carrot, wear control. So sad, to bad.   So what can be done? Do I need actually say? [Anton Parr]       Even this must be monitored if the oil is on the low side and the VII an organic or you opt for a 0W40 with an even lighter base oil and more / higher MW VII. (Note the lower density of the 40 weight versus the SAE 30 mono-weight?)    There is another workaround. Temperature. An SAE *W30 run at a bulk temperature of between 180 and 195 F.    Being the belt and suspenders sort I am I do both. Run it cook and run it heavy.    In Part II I'll work the AW package.
