I built this out of boredom and a desire to have lot decoration.

This is the type of project that I truly miss!  When I had no spare time, I had the land and resources to build decks, sheds and structures!  Now I have the time but living in a pristine subdivision!  My projects have dwarfed considerably!  Your bird house is about as big as I can do, but I don't want to attract more birds for the neighbor's cat!

The mine head frame was fun. It is 10 feet tall. The hardest part was finding the pully. Paid more than I wanted to for the pulley.

Had the day off work on Monday so I took advantage of the unusually warm November weather and replaced the heater in my garage. The old heater wasn’t vented  so I didn’t use it since it was trying to kill me with carbon monoxide. Now, I won’t have to freeze or huddle up next to an electric space heater.

I was planning on starting a new house, but with lumber prices where they are at, I'll  pass for now. Prices have been up by a factor of 4 sometimes more. Nobody knows what the prices will be. Usually it's predictable. Beginning of new year lumber usually drops due to import limits resetting to zero. I'm glad I built and finished my last one in 2019

I'm but 67 and glad the home I have is the last. You guys have no idea how much I hate moving.

I'm the same age and have lived in the same house for six years.  This is the longest I've lived in the same house since I was a child!  It is both a culmination and compromise of all we've learned to want in our home.  It was purchased with the idea that it will be our forever home and can be tweaked to meet our changing needs.  It is modern, open, easily maintained and no stairs. The biggest conflict is I have accumulated tools and equipment to repair and upgrade any structural, plumbing, electrical, or  cosmetic requirements a house could possibly need. The tools I need for this house would fit in a kitchen junk drawer!  I also now can devote all of my time to tool rich endeavors which is particularly frustrating.  I believe the saying is, "I'm all dressed up with no place to go!"

I lived in a two story for 20 years. Master up. 12 years ago we built a smaller one story on the back on the property for retirement. The property is wooded with a winding drive to the back. Can’t be seen. It’s been rented out throughout. I always handle the mowing on both. Probably two acres of mowing. Lots of trimming. I hate it with a passion. But, I hate the idea of paying someone to do it more. My dilemma and my wife’s. Making the move. It’s admitting we’re old. Nearing 65 the conversation is almost weekly. Sell the front house, move to the back. We are closing on our condo in Myrtle beach this month. Between covid and the impossibility of finding a decent vacation rental administrator it’s time. The investment paid off. The problem was every time we went there we spent most of the time doing repairs. Not a problem if the rental organizations did there job. After three in four years. The conclusion is most people take no pride in their jobs anymore. I’m so glad I’m not training equipment operators anymore.

We moved allot with my work so rented all but twice. I was on my one and only home and work site when I bought the first one. The wife however was not on her last husband. :crackup:As it would turn out I dodged a bullet....

House we have now is a single level ranch of modest size on a half acre lot outside a very small town. Quite older neighborhood of about 50 homes. We like it but taxes are getting stupid. Still I think I can weather that storm until all I need is a dirt blanket. Wife will likely sell it after that. We like simple...

67 years young.

We lived in a small ranch in the city for 30 years. I parked on the street. We have been in our mountain home 3 and a half years. I have a big garage. House is 3 times as big with a walkout basement. Like having the room. Not as easy to maintian but worth it. I do all the maintenance except staining the outside. I paid to have that done. Lots of ladder work.

My plan is to leave here when the dirt blanket arrives or I can no longer do what needs to be done. Snow removal is one.

The wildlife, peace and quiet and no neighbors is great.

We are on a culdasac and the only house. We average 6-10 vehicles on our road in summer, this includes ATV's. In winter delivery trucks when we order something and the propane truck once a month.

To fight boredom I tinker, watch the tube and play online poker. We go to dinner once a week and breakfast once in a while.

Our county has 339 cases of Covid and 4 deaths.

I moved literally like two weeks before the Covid “lockdowns” hit and I started working from home. It was actually nice to get stuff done (organizing unpacking etc)

Climbing a ladder and snow clearing are also my two challenges and I am talking a much smaller scale than diyer2.  The ladder is forbidden by the Mrs. as she once had to deal with  me, along with paramedics, when I took the fast way on my descent.  This also ties into why I don't shovel snow.  Our last home had a very large driveway, patio, parking areas and several walkways.  I had a large self propelled snowblower with power steering and reverse.   It wasn't physically demanding if used properly.  I sold it when we moved to this house because it was not practical to store or use with such a small property.  Now, my wife does her best to keep our walkway clear, and neighbors are quick to give a hand with the driveway.  A few days ago my wife asked if an electric shovel could be our answer.  Great!  Now I had a new research project and the possibility of a new tool to fill up my precious little man space!  I immersed myself  into the land of snow removal devices and last night I went to Home Depot to order a single stage, 18" gas snow thrower (Toro).  It looks simple to use and require little physical effort.  The novelty will keep us motivated for at least a couple of snowfalls.  When we get bored, we have a 12yr old neighbor who loves controlling anything gas powered! Brain vs brawn! ?
