IMO, the most useful aspect of these personal devices is the ability to have immediate access to information.  We no longer have to wait until our next visit to the library to better inform our own opinions!

I agree with the mid-level phones exceeding my technological needs. Having the world wide web in my pocket had changed my life in countless ways. Some useful, some just pointless (facebook, games) Two of the most valuable to me are Google Maps and the ability to see live radar when I'm trying to work outside. It wasn't that long ago that you got the forecast on the morning news, grabbed map book and then just hoped you could stay warm/dry through out the rest of the day. Now I can plan around the specific weather and drive anywhere I want without planning the route ahead of time. Need gas? I can find the closest station to my route and the price before I get there. It used to be a guessing game when in unfamiliar territory. Crazy how much has changed in the last 20 years.

Interesting last few days. Being retired along with covid spare time and lawn work backing off. I’ve been pondering. Gas prices will surely go up. My taxes will surely go up. One bright spot my vehicles will last longer from less use. It’s not covid that worries me. I’m glad I can be happy sitting at the house. Yes, surely there will be more spare time.

Illinois is riddled with rivers, creeks and cannels. Poke around on the back roads long enough and you discover this network of connecting byways and cow paths that knit it all together into hundreds of miles of 'along the river and through the woods' driving you don't even know is there sticking to the major roads.  Extra bonus this year was the state has doubled down on it's efforts toward road improvement so many of these lesser driven roads are in like new condition. Get tired of it? Your never more than a half hour from a US highway or Interstate to take you home.

The television has taken up a lot of a lot of people's time over the past few days!  It is still amazes me how we can readily see world events happening live.  I am also amazed at how I'm still amazed!  I clearly remember being glued to the television in the early 60's to keep informed on world events!  If you were old enough to remember, you watched the Beatles' first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show. ?  I have a decent memory and I'm sometimes asked by younger family members for information.  With Veterans Day/ Remembrance Day around the corner, I was asked by an adult nephew for information regarding his grandfather's involvement in WWII.  Yesterday the containers of old family photos came out of the garage.  I laughed because I know these three large Rubbermaid containers could be replaced with one thumb drive.  This has the potential to be a "Covid19 Spare time" project!  However, there is something very special about leafing through an actual photo album.  The pictures my father had from his time on the Atlantic are powerful images.  One thing about those days is you put a lot of thought behind snapping a picture.  You had to wait and then pay to see the results!  BTW  my niece has a app on her phone that she used to convert her photo albums to digital albums.  She did this without removing the pictures from the page.  Her images are as clear as when I scan individual pictures.  I didn't pay much attention at the time, as I didn't have the time or interest or iPhone.  Do any of you have a quick way to convert treasured photo albums to digital?  (Android & Windows user)

I was home sick with Kennedy was shot. Yes Ed Sullivan and Topo Gigio. :)  Yes Beatles too.

I would still take film over digital if film were still plentiful. We traded creativity for speed. Bad trade IMHO.

Mom had a box like you three tubs of photos. I liked putting my fingers on something a great grand touched that I never met. A sense of connected I guess. One of my old LO's at Chevron was an ex WWII Navy photographer. He had a project that took photos of photos to preserve them. Looked like first frame. I took class from him as most of the shift did. A shutterbug club of sorts. Love Slooooooooooooooow B&W film.

Well, the good news is that the pandemic is over after the election, as scheduled. Bye bye spare time, hello normal life. Close the thread, we’re all done here.

We were sent home from school on that very sad day in Nov. '63.  We spent the day glued to the Motorola!

Yep, like clock work. The same people telling Pfizer 5 weeks ago to hold off on asking for emergency use from the FDA for a few more months to collect more testing data on the vaccine, seems to have no problem with them putting in a request now. One good thing the election did was it some how made covid19 just not that bad of a thing anymore. It's like the fear mongering isn't need now. Atleast we can now get back to normal life.

Six days in a row over 70 F in November in Northern Illinois. What a treat!! Did some patchwork on the driveway. Last of the leaves I hope. To windy to burn but did it anyway and got away with it feeding it slow and keeping it moving. I have time for things like this now. Good news about Pfizer's progress with a vaccine??? I hope so. If not wife just bought us new sweat pants
