I Believe genetics play a big part in the health and longevity game.

Yes, I inherited ailments from both of my parents and I have devoted a lot of time building on what I learned from them.  I am over simplifying it but they actually died as a result of how they dealt with their afflictions.  My parents didn't avoid doctors but they were always reactive rather than proactive. Two of my three siblings didn't make it past their 60's and I also learned a lot from them.    I'm doing what I can to not follow in some footsteps.

I subscribe to the belief that joint pain indicates problems that will be exacerbated by increased use.    My way of dealing with this is believing joint pain to be the "lesser of two evils".  But, as you suggested earlier, no two people are the same. 😉

I’m the only one who inherited high blood pressure from my grandfather. At 19 I got a nosebleed every morning. I was just married and gained 60 Lbs in six months that helped I’m sure. That forced me to the doctor yearly for a refill. That grandfather died in his 50s before there were blood pressure meds. I don’t remember him. My grandmother on my father’s side had diabetes. Her last 10 years were miserable. She went blind, couldn’t walk. She didn’t listen to the doctor. I reluctantly listen take the meds and do the test. It wouldn’t be fair to my wife not to take care of myself. If it was just me I know I wouldn’t be bothered. The disposition is genetic.

Offered as the scientific explanation not dogma promotional. Romans 5:12,14

[That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because they had all sinned...............Nevertheless, death ruled as king from Adam down to Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the same way that Adam transgressed, ........]

Genetics? Yes! Lifestyle? Absolutely! Time and unforeseen occurrence? Yes, for some. But we will all die.

So what do we do with things we have not control over? Matt 6:27

[Who of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his life span?]

Perhaps we can 'influence' it. That is, do what we can to enhance what time we do have.

I have osteoarthritis in my entire spine. It hurts but it does hurt less when I stretch to maximize mobility. I've found it more pain relieving to stretch than to exercise but I still do as much of the latter as I can. I do notice a good deal of relief in the summer when I'm more active in simple yard work. Gave up my riding mower, for now, as the walk behind seems to help a great deal. Walk the dog. Helping more with housework has actually been of great value. In more ways than one.

Diet has helped immensely. Not just the weight loss taking some pressure off but my whole body works better. A little here, a little there. Even depression caused by chronic pain subsides.

I too have osteoarthritis creating mobility challenges.   Funny story: Two days ago I was out for a walk.  During this walk, I was once asked if I needed a ride and later asked if I was lost.   I dress like I'm out for a walk (hi-vis jacket etc.) but I do often appear to struggle with walking.  My trip around the block may not present to others like an evening run, but my body appreciates the effort just the same!    My mum dealt with the pain of osteoarthritis with aids like scooters, lift chairs, pain meds and hired help but these robbed her of  independence early and wasn't helpful to her vital organs.(IMO)   We don't know when our time is up but should do what we can to make the best of what we have.  Preparing for retirement isn't just about money. If you're too young to retire, you should devote time to  plan how you may need to enjoy life with a young brain in an antique body!

We were going to the "big city" this weekend to celebrate my upcoming birthday on Monday.  Unfortunately, we would be staying across the street of a planned "covid mandates" protest site which would not make for a relaxing holiday!  This is another way covid has generated free time (collaterally) and kept more money in our pockets!    Today, we'll go enjoy our own town and indulge ourselves with some of the money we saved!  We are not upset by having to pivot our activities or change our way of doing things.   I am so happy that Covid mandates don't stress me out and thankful life experiences haven't made me feel otherwise!

Glad you have a positive outlook.

900,000 dead in “we’re #1 USA”…demonstrably worst death toll in developed nations. Yay,at least Canada 🇨🇦 is smart enough you’re death toll isn’t so egregious. It would be funny but these #s don’t lie.

There’s with Covid and from Covid. It’s not cut and dry. Once again follow the money. Same with mask and lock downs. John Hopkins hospital just released a study on lock downs. The CDC on mask.

Well at least 900,000 dead Americans suddenly had a lot of free time to rest after January 2020. Who knows why. Free time is what this thread is all about, caused by Covid, or Covid. Who knows.....the irony is large.

Enjoy your free days remaining folks.

Yesterday I had to drive to the next city to get a 3rd PSA test in as many months.  All of our labs were full for the day. Staff shortages due to Covid was the reason for my inability to get a walk-in appointment near my home.  As you know it's a simple blood test but when you need them a month apart there is anxiety as to the "why".   My inconvenience was small compared to the experience of many others but it gives credence to keeping covid protocols and restrictions in place.  Yesterday's results were in my favour and I'm glad I didn't wait another day.  I'm also lucky that I took advantage of my spare time over the past two years to make sure all of my fluids were checked on a regular basis.  Some things you need to attend to before they are noticeable!

When is Canada going to start towing the scabs blocking Ottawa and other major cities in your neck of the woods?

Talk about doing something constructive with their Covid spare time. Canadian truckers are doing it. Rock on.

Never thought our own misdirected internal stupidity could expand so fast but thats the "interweb" of nazi's. Find some F Troop quality "warriors" and Rock On is right.  🙄 Reminds me of Jan 6 quality of engagement.
