Covid19 Spare time

I didn’t watch many sitcoms or series when I was working I went to bed early. Now I’m catching up.  Favorite is NCIS, law and order, blacklist, recently The Americans, walking dead, Seinfeld, The Rockford Files, all the killing shows like dateline, 20-20, even the first 7 seasons of Grays Anatomy, Ozarks. About the only thing I watch live anymore is The five, Tucker, baseball and nascar. In the morning Fox and Friends. If I want a good laugh CNN.

I like to surf YouTube when I have the big "panel" to myself.  Comedies like Mrs. Browns Boy's and skits from SNL provide some entertainment lately but I typically like to watch reviews or experiences with RV's, trucks, and motorcycles.   We pre-record a lot of shows for commercial free, after evening news entertainment.  (Law and Order. Bull,  Chicago PD, Med & Fire, Hudson and Rex....etc.)

I watch  some on Youtube also. Some of the WWII documentary type stuff is pretty good. They have gotten some good interviews with people that probably would never be seen on regular TV or DVD.

 

Anyone watching Battle Bots?

I have Direct Tv stream with HBO max included , prime and Netflix. I not missing anything. All of that is on my phone too. When I travel I have a plug to hook my phone to a tv just in case. I have 4 big screens one in each bedroom but one. I finally got a smart TV. But I have a direct tv stream box two Roku and one fire. Sounds expensive but it’s all including my Wi-Fi around 120$. I’m finding I’m not watching Netflix much I’m contemplating dropping it and trying something else. If it wasn’t for baseball and nascar I  wouldn’t have direct tv stream. There’s lots of free programming on those other services.

When I visit Dad he likes to YouTube on the Telly. One time it was the potato harvest in Idaho. The machines and that do it are interesting. Another those really HUGE Semi's they use Down Under. Grain Trains. The make pretty short work of a Kangaroo. When he's in the mood for old country music videos I hear them an hour before I arrive. Like shortly after I cross the Iowa line.

A main attraction to YouTube for me is the amateur production of many of the channels.  There are everyday/relatable people behind the cameras.  Many full-time RV'ers like to report on their travels and experiences.  Following them kept me company during covid restrictions and saved me a lot of money!  For example "I ride tiny house adventures" with Bill & Deb tells of the build and travels of a couple in my demographic with a limited budget.  Their struggles and accomplishments are real and in real-time.  They are also not immune to the financial and health issues associated with this stage in life but don't let these overwhelm them.  Then, I can turn off my real world and watch monster trucks frolicking in mud pits with many ladies detracting from the truck builds...

Yesterday morning we picked up a few items at Costco and the cost at the checkout far exceeded our expectations.  In the afternoon, we went home and started mapping out a road trip we hope(d) to take in the spring.  In the evening we drafted a budget of what a four day road trip (one way) would cost.  We based it on a most economical model like packing meals and using loyalty points for hotels.  We had to consider the predicted rise/soar in fuel costs resulting from current events which would be a huge dent in our budget.    No matter how we play with the numbers, the trade-offs to make such a trip are far greater than they have every been.  Later, we watched the evening news and listened to a protestor wanting things to go back to, "pre-pandemic normal".   I think this is like looking at old pictures when I had hair on the top of my head.  I can wish all I want but the return would be miraculous!

Pandemics and wars have consequences. Inaccurate reactions to same make it worse. Humans react poorly to stress especially if they can't figure out the causes accurately.

A movie on Amazon Prime called "Old Henry". Was $.99 to rent. It was a good "western". Not sure I'd pay more to rent though

 

I especially liked "Reacher". He fits the character better than Tom Cruise

It seems we are wanting to spend more money than we can just to get shows that are on different streaming platforms.  Kind of stinks that they do this to us.   

We really liked Reacher.  It fit the book really well and better than Tom Cruise for sure

Peacemaker was OK, stupid funny and messed up at times.  Opening is funny and Eagelly  well 

The Boys is another one that is off the wall.

Since we moved to Wilmington NC we started watching One Tree Hill,  yes it is a teenage soap. But it is cool seeing all the locations it was filmed.  Amazing at when I'm out on my bike and riding past the houses they used, to see people and especially teen girls taking their picture in front of the house and it has been off the air since 2013.

I saw the new Dexter. They had a few on DIRECTV stream to hook you into getting Cinemax. I have to draw the line somewhere. Everything has a plus now. A regular free than a few more dollars get the plus. I already have too much too watch or nothing depending on mood. So if I want to try something new I’ll drop something else. It can get expensive quick. Well back to the American’s my latest.

So are you using all the streaming to replace cable? I was going to go that direction after my mom died. I needed cable to keep it simple for her. But got a great deal from the cable company, it doesn't pay me to get something like Youtube TV or Hulu Plus Live.

Prime video

Netflix

 

I split the cost and share with a buddy of mine. Right now paramount+ is my most watched. It seems like they will keep coming out with new content on a schedule to keep you hooked. Netflix is my least watched.

 

 

You'll like 1883. "Mayor of Kingstown" is written by the same guy that does "Yellowstone/1883". He's got 3 or 4 other shows in the works with Paramount. I will say, if your patient most of these shows will eventually be on cable for those who have it. I've got enough streaming options to keep me entertained along with cable

Check out direct tv stream. The only one with its own box and has other stream channels too. I’m all stream now.

Sorry, not interested Direct TV. Had too many problems when I was on their Dealer list. Plus the product was sketchy along with their "techs". I had to quit suggesting people try them.
