Just some thoughts from a 20 year old.

Thank you for your insightful, articulate and personal account.  I'm certain your story would help any parent/grandparent facing this issue.   My concern is somewhat skewed by my generation.  My grandson's parents have dealt with this admirably.   Unlike me, they grew up with computers.   However,  60 minutes per month of family dial-up time and and a monochrome screen creates natural limitations!  😉

I think a lot of people from other generations forget that us younger kids grew up in the great recession. This had an affect on a lot of families and I am sure you guys can attest to. There wasn't a whole lot to do other than boot up the playstation and play a game online. Before that you had Katrina. Just a lot of things that shaped the current gen that I think many people don't think about.

Yesterday I waited in line for almost an hour at an office supply store  that was very short of staff.   The camaraderie amongst the customers and staff was almost fun.  The consensus amongst us was that this is a feature of our new normal.  Relaxed restrictions will open things up but make us more vulnerable and find staff sick at home.  Covid continues to impact how we use our time.  All services are available if we remain patient and flexible.  The evening news shows angry people for and against tougher mandates.  Thankfully, there is stress free common ground that is taking place in the real world!

Three of our friends, a couple and a single person, recently went on international flights and all came back testing positive for Covid.  Two have "mild" symptoms, one is concerning.  We don't like these odds so we will will improve our chances of avoiding covid by planning road trips.  Over the past two years I've done a lot of YouTube travels and have amassed several potential destinations.  The diversity of places and/or events throughout North America is astounding. I am interested in hearing your "must see" suggestions that may not be widely known.

My brother in law is visiting my father in law in North Carolina. My father in law got Covid in between the shots and booster shot. The booster was worse than Covid for him. The brother in law has  a rapid test they’re using before they walk in his door. At this point I’m skeptical about it all, everything. My granddaughter, sister, nephew are on their second go round. There’re not even passing it to their spouses or kids in the same house. All are vaxed and boosted. This is really strange. I might add my sister in law just got it. My little brother is over weight that worries me. Day 5 for her. We’ll know anytime. At least in Texas we can get therapeutics.

My grandfather just had surgery and was in the ER for a couple of days around all the Covid patients. He is boostered as well as my grandmother. He just got out of the hospital a day ago so hoping that they can stay home for a while again.

My brother runs clearing crews on pipelines out of town. He left Sunday. He’s always driving. I just text him. He’s still negative.

We decided to take advantage of our spare time and digitize boxes and albums of family photos.  We seemed to inherit all of the photos from previous generations so this is not a small task.  The job is emotionally exhausting and many breaks are required!  We have three family members celebrating 70th bd's in the next few months and thought we'd make them each a personal digital photo album of their lives from birth to their twenties.  Sorting, scanning and correcting pictures is tedious and at our rate of progress, these gifts would need to be given at their 80th birthdays.   Last weekend we decided to experiment and take 100 choice pictures in an envelope to our local office supply store.  Yesterday, I, picked up the old photos c/w a flash drive with all of these pictures in digital format.   The color correction on the faded pictures was outstanding and the pictures were all uniform and easy to manipulate.  I will be taking a box of 1000 pictures next time.  This is one of those DIY efforts that is best left to the people with the expertise and tools for the job!  Seriously, if you have boxes of old photos taking up space and not being enjoyed, take them to your popular office supply store and pay them some money.   They don't need to sigh, laugh, smile, weep, and  reminisce  at every image!

Customboss, you're service may not be appreciated by some or by many on a daily basis, but never doubt that many appreciate your service along with the many others on a daily basis.

When another person's opinion is different than mine, I respect that they have equal entitlement to their view.  I lose respect for individuals or groups when they present their opinion in an unlawful or insubordinate manner.  I am no less frustrated by Covid restrictions than most.   However, I follow the rules mandated by those in authority and will voice any opposition while abiding by these rules.  There are significant protests, here and globally, over government direction on Covid.  I'm taking the time to listen and learn but it is unfortunate that those with attention seeking behaviors often detract from those with valid points!    I don't let myself get angry over issues related to Covid because I believe most people are sincerely advocating for what they believe to be right!  When I see an individual spewing anger, I suspect I'm seeing someone who simply isn't listening.  🙂

Protest is the reason for the United States and civil rights. I have no problem with the truckers standing up for what they believe peacefully.

Meaning literally "blocked path" which is exactly was the 'restrictions' are intended to do. Block COVID's path for the health of all. Even those who resist the efforts of others to keep them safe, well and alive....best a human can do. I understand not liking them. I don't understand hating anyone who is trying to keep you from harm. It's like going to the doctor for a arm fracture. No likes getting a broken bone set but really....hate the doctor for setting it? Irrational and unappreciative. But it is the way many a man thinks.

Jesus however thought other. Matt 5:21-24

[“You heard that it was said to those of ancient times: ‘You must not murder, but whoever commits a murder will be accountable to the court of justice.’ However, I say to you that everyone who continues wrathful with his brother will be accountable to the court of justice; and whoever addresses his brother with an unspeakable word of contempt will be accountable to the Supreme Court; whereas whoever says, ‘You despicable fool!’ will be liable to the fiery Gehenna. “If, then, you are bringing your gift to the altar and there you remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar, and go away. First make your peace with your brother, and then come back and offer your gift.]

2 cents worth.

We can believe what ever we want, we can speak. However lawfully elected leadership of US ( can't speak to Canadian truckers who want a pass on spreading the love of Covid death) has to act on GENERAL PUBLIC HEALTH.

That means balancing the constitution against keeping the average un-informed citizen who might harm other citizens because of misplaced belief.

Taking that further past pandemic drama but similar line of " Burger King have it your way USA",.....trying to over throw a certified election is just another aspect of misguided misinformed idiots believing falsehoods, speaking loudly ( those two allowed under constitution) then ACTING OUT AND ATTACKING THE CERTIFICATION OF ELECTORAL COLLEGE.  Thats where you become a seditionist and insurrectionist.

USMC General Smedley Butler ( 2 time MOH winner ) spoke to that in 1934 when approached by wealthy folks who wanted a military coup to take over US.  Hopefully the paywall allows you to read this but it behoves most who either never served or understand that as a military person your oath is to President, lawful leaders, lawful orders, aligned with  THE CONSTITUTION and if anything or anyone counters constitution or UMCJ you obey the constitution.

I’m reading, experiencing, as live witnessing things with Covid that defies the experts claims. Then there’s the Covid dashboards as far as rates of infections and deaths. Also there’s questions of deaths with or from Covid. Everything is balancing out between the extreme cautious and reasonable as far as how states and countries are handling Covid. Then there’s the old standbys. Who’s getting paid. Those vaccines are a real money maker, therapeutics not so much. I got Covid. Felt like a bad cold. A few days later my wife who’s more at risk for a bad outcome. Got a sore throat and lost taste, very mild. I had a house full for two days. Even my 83 year old mother in-law, who I picked up and took home. One day before my symptoms. No one got it. Yes I got the shots, my wife passed on it. Im reading, hearing the anti body last two years. Im going with that. The rest can debate. I said my piece.🤓
