Tell my why the 6.2 with the same materials and clearances across several platforms calls out 3 different grades.

GM post bankruptcy laid off or retired all the geniuses who used to do materials science particularly lubricants science.

It’s a worldwide platform. Quality of engine oil in 3rd world countries is poor. Materials science departments of major engine makers have been gutted EXCEPT CUMMINS.

England isn’t a third world country. At least not yet. 😂

I’d argue the oil found on the shelves throughout Europe and Asia is going to be equal or better quality than what we get here.

Europe your correct but Asia is poor quality.

For clarification I generally agree with what I think 🤔 Grumpy is attempting to say…. where we diverge is that adding dynamic viscosity under temp and load that’s not required is needless. Could hold needless heat.
Here’s what Grumpy and I have done alike. We use a lubricant and analyze it like On the reel does.  I use the lowest safe viscosity I can that shows low wear and stable temps.

The Mitsubishi Mirage 1.3 3 cylinder gasoline engine Grumpy mentioned is the one using a myriad of recommended oils in different markets. It’s also a lead main bearing engine, multiport  etc.  Older design to be durable.

Got me thinking.  Have you been to Malaysia, even Japan, India, Mideastern countries. Aramco buying Valvoline International is a major improvement but the lubricants are NOT high quality. Latin America even worse.

The Japanese oils I can think of off hand that make their way to our shores are decent. Idemitsu and Eneos. Middle East…at least the countries that aren’t bombed out crapholes…they basically have all the same products and brands we have. Through the TRX group I’ve talked to a few of those guys.

No disputing the rest on your list are mostly bad. But I don’t think they spec a wide vis range for the Mitsubishi solely because of the low quality products in some countries. Especially not when Grump is referencing the book from the UK where that is not a concern. Also don’t think that motor’s relatively primitive design is a huge factor. Toyota has modern DI 4 cylinders that have different grades spec’d based on location too.
