Why not just buy a full cat back and not hodge podge or hack up exhaust and then still have drone. I mean you’re already buying a $45k+ truck. What’s another $1500???  Make it sound and run awesome without the drone?  Just my 2 cents. I saved up and bought a full Corsa cat back and haven’t had any regrets.

Get where you're going there but some of us have fairly firm budgets.  I'm going to mess around (unless I can find a used catback) for now.  I can always slap the stock back in or try a different muffler until I have that extra 1500 laying around.

Understandable.  If you look at the price of truck compared to a cat back exhaust. It’s quite small.

Apples to apples

Both a flapper and muffler delete/freer flowing muffler will get the HP gains.  So, here, we're really only comparing the "sound" of the exhaust.  The difference in 1,200-1,300 when you think about it that way, is pretty hard to swallow if the vehicle has put a substantial dent in your wallet.  We could go back and forth with "they should have bought a cheaper, used truck" but that's not the point.  Apples to apples, a full catback will net you very little HP gains, compared to a flapper delete and muffler swap; it's all about the sound here.

That 1,200-1,300 difference might sound like a  drop in the bucket for a 60k truck until you add in other similarly categorized things like, window tint, a CAI, Off road lights, Kicker subwoofer add-on, etc... things with more show than go...but different strokes.  Some might want to spend their money elsewhere on the truck or simply not have the money but want that little extra grumble.  I digress though, this could all have been fixed if GM had spent just a little more time tuning their exhaust.  It's so quiet, it's hard to tell it's running inside.  A sporty truck should not sound like your grandfather's Buick :)

Here in the salt I find a quality 304 stainless catback to be a good investment. Especially if you plan to keep the truck 5+ years. I have done plenty of simple muffler swaps in the past and it’s not long before stuff starts rusting and looks like ass.

I buy new trucks to avoid that crap. But if a muffler delete or swap can be done cleanly and with quality parts, I don’t see a problem. That is, aside from the trial and error involved to avoid drone.

After spending $75 on my muffler delete, I can't imagine spending $1500+ on a full system. That's money I could be spending on my Vette instead, or saving, or paying my truck off earlier, or dumping into my supplemental retirement plan, etc. Different strokes for different folks.

True. But I know the 304 stainless will hold up and is backed by lifetime warranty. What’s the difference if your spending it on your vette or your truck??

I don’t have a vette. I have a boat and I am also dropping a 350 mag mpi into this winter. I want more power and speed! To each their own.

I truly love the throaty exhaust sound this truck has. The fit and finish is also very nice. I won’t ever have to worry about it rusting out. Here in Midwest the salts and other cr@p they put on these roads, eat away at welds like no other. I have ZERO drone. Can you honestly say you have zero drone??

I wish I could upload my startup but it won’t let me here on the site. Says file is too big.
Again I’m not bashing, I’m just a very fickle person and like to have my stuff done right the first time. Just the way I am made.

I also detail vehicles as a side job and I don’t half@$$ doing that either. This also pays for all of my upgrades.  I see it as free spending money for my toys. I’ve never spent money on any of my vehicles from my regular job.
Take care and be safe.

I'm not in a salt state but on my 2002 Silverado. I put a flowmaster on it when I got it new and  had to get a new one at 100k miles and then that one rusted out at 160k miles. So from there on out I went stainless steel.  The rest of the factory exhaust was in great shape.  Just the aluminized Flowmasters rusted out from the inside.

Nice, you'll love the 350 MAG MPI. I had a pair in my old boat. Bulletproof, but thirsty bastards. Better than carb-ed but not by much. I’m an outboard guy now but I do miss the soundtrack. Loved their little idle lope, there’s nothing like a good tree-fiddy.

Awe!!!  I likey.  Nice setup. Especially twin 350s. I bet that boat screamed and sounded mean doing it.
Yes. My father is big fisher man and loves the outboards, especially the maintenance and winterizing of them.  super easy.
Me, I still prefer the inboard, the kids, wife and I love tubing and skiing still. I can see myself in 10 years getting a tritoon with twin 400s on it.  Heck by then mercury will probably have a 1000 hp outboard by then. ??

Yeah. The I6 Verados are cool and all, but their new ProXS V8s with sport mode exhaust...they make all the right noises. Think they top out at *just* 300hp though. Also way too expensive for me anyway!

They make a 400 now in the Verado.  A buddy of mine has a Regency tritoon with a  Verado supercharged 350 Hp on it. Sounds very nice. I like that little charger whine!

and yes the ProXS tops out at 300 hp with a 4.6L v8. Haven’t heard one of them. Would love to from the sound of it.

and yes the difference from inboard motor swap compared to an outboard is out right highway robbery!!  Those outboards go for crazy cash. $100 per HP is going rate.

Mercury also make a 4.6 supercharged V8 at 450 hp.  It’s a Mercury racing motor.   It seems like there is a lot more potential for more horsepower in that motor, but with the next closest competitor being a Yamaha at 425 hp that’s enough for now.

And only 90k a piece. ?

If I had money for those I’d probably skip right over them and rig up a cig boat with the Merc QC4Vs at 1750hp a piece instead. Have to overhaul them every 25 hours but who cares.

    • I was the GM of a Lincoln Mercury dealership back in the 80's. The service lot was always full with "broken" ones. Plenty of transmissions, power windows and a/c repairs. The only one I'd consider owning would be the Marauder at this point and it certainly wouldn't be a daily driver.  My 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate is my "Lincoln Town Car" in my retirement. I want all the "stuff". Big infotainment screens, one touch power windows, Supercruise (I won't buy another vehicle without it), hands free pretty much everything. I'm going to swap my current truck for a 2027 Yukon Denali Ultimate so I can have the air suspension and surround vision recording along with all the other "stuff".
    • Yep mine is on backorder also.
    • The Denali Ultimate's grille is tinted, but the "regular' Denali has a bright chrome grille like the current models.
    • Because that is IDIOTIC, much like this question. They've already been forced to do it by past administrations - why would you roll that back when it's a GOOD thing?  WHO IS ARGUING FOR LOWER MILEAGE???? 😂  NOBODY IS!!   I'm certainly not! What I want is RELIABLE vehicles again that are worth the price paid!    I don't get your logic here ...   In 2003 I paid $2,200 for our '86 Grand Marquis. It's STILL running and I've never been inside the engine, aside for the timing cover since it was leaking, so I threw a new timing set in since that makes sense. Transmission is ORIGINAL. Electric pump in the gas tank is ORIGINAL. Rear end is ORIGINAL. I'd have to hit my head REAL hard to want to pay $60k or more for a car that still can't come close to the comfort, seating and storage space, or reliability of this one. Nothing is even in the ball park! Hundreds of thousands of brands and models have been built and sent to the crusher while this one keeps on going!   https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   I've got a whole fleet of cars, motorcycles, and a truck close to this age for summer and winter. No one could pay me enough to buy anything built this century. I have zero use for any it.
    • Since I'm the one who has to fix them when they break, I'll take vehicles over 30 years old all day, EVERY day, over ANY modern crap. Have you attempted any repairs on anything built after 2006? It's a friggin nightmare, and gets worse the newer the model year.    If I had the will or desire, I can make any car of any age outside of a Model T (I don't have THAT much will ...) just as powerful, comfortable, and have all the tech the new stuff does, and get pretty close in mileage, too. I prefer SIMPLICITY. The less the vehicle has, the less to fix WHEN it breaks, not IF.   I'm glad you snot-nosed punks don't like them. More for us, plus that keeps the prices from climbing more than they already have.👍
