I admit, I'm a bit frosty that a major chunk of functionality died at right about 30,000 miles and just past the warranty date. Dealer estimated ~ $800 to $1000 for a new telematics unit and programming.
If it were a pure safety issue then yes, I think it should be a recall. Our Ford Expedition has a recall on the backup camera since it is deemed as safety related, and I think that's a stretch given there's a perfectly functional rearview mirror. The telematics unit would be an even bigger stretch so no, I am not hanging my hat on a recall.
Here on this forum I wanted to know if this was a widespread issue and how people are dealing with it. I couldn't find much direct evidence, so I asked.
FWIW this morning I found quite a few telematics failure threads in the GM OnStar community. Seems like replacement telematics units aren't always available and that people are having issues getting them properly programmed.
That’s true I'm being sympathetic to any area that hasn’t been corrupted by bad policies that lead to high gas prices. And crime. Among other things you seem to relish.
