Electrical Problems

My truck broke down today. Coming home from a kayaking trip,  I had to serve pretty hard around a car. I slammed on the brakes, and jerked the steering wheel hard to avoid a collision. I got a chrismas tree on the dash... Service Stabilitrak came on, reduced steering assist, service 4wd system, tach stopped working, oil pressure gauge, volt gauge, coolant gauge all went to low. The radiator fans went to 100% on, no check engine light, at that point though. Pulled over, popped hood and looked around. Shut the truck off, started back up, same problems, almost no power steering. Shut back off, won't restart. Got it towed home and started looking things over. Disconnected the battery for 30 mins. Checked fuses, checked relays, checked the BCM plugs, checked as many grounds as I could find. Now throwing a check engine light, UO100 code, fuel gauge went to low, even though I have a half tank... It says CAL beside the odometer now, instead of the compass. What Now?

Any idea how old your battery is?

5 yrs old, on the charger now, even though, I doubt thats the issue...

When they fail, they will cause all kind of problems, I would plan on replacing it.

If is the factory one, you got your moneys worth out of it.

If you don't have the ability to test all modules then just get it to the dealer or someone who can. You just have a loss of comms to a module. Could be battery issue but who knows at this point.

I agree, I have a charger on the battery, up to 12.8 volts, it's not the problem. I've lost coms to a module(s)/ ECU. calling a dealer Monday morning to get it towed there. I've done everything I know how to do...

Check your grounds. Might have ripped one lose it the hard stop/turn. These trucks act crazy when they get lose/bad grounds. Just a thought.

12.8 on the charger is not good enough. You need to charge the battery with at least a 10 amp charger, fully overnight at 13.3 to 13.6 and then pull off surface charge with the headlights for a few minutes. Let it rest a few more minutes, then test voltage. Might be a little low, say 12.4 to 12.5. Let it sit overnight while disconnected. Should be 12.6 or 12.7 .  I pick up used batteries at work all the time. If they have been out there for a couple days and show 12.6, it's still good. You need at least a 10 amp charger.

Brand new, fully charged battery put on today, no change. It wasn't a problem with the battery.

All grounds have been tested, that I could find.

    • Still looks like a rivet to me in the pics, I don't see a nut and none of the pics show the head of the screw. But if you says so.....
    • Thanks for all the help so far!   I did try right from 2026 right down to 2021, and only from 2023 down lets me select the option for tire psi change, but I get the vehicle not supported error!   I'll definitely try it under Chevrolet after work today, and I'll get the sensor number from gm for my truck tire sensors. And I'll let you know if it works for me under Chevrolet!   And if that doesn't work, I'm going to guess that what @Atlas said about maybe I have a different body control module could be true!
    • From where I'm sitting this sounds like a compatibility problem. I'm assuming the 2007 was a 900-series truck, and not an 800-series (they were sold side-by-side in dealerships that model year), since it starts and runs.   This is why I HATE post-2006 vehicles. Everything becomes a huge problem when you try to keep the thing running for longer than the manufacturer has designed it to.    I can't remember when Global-A architecture started - either '10 or '11. For your sake, you had better hope it's '11, or you're going to be spending some BIG money to correct this cluster-eff. That's something you need to find out before doing anything else. You may have several computers bricked ... but the fact that it runs tells me you MIGHT be ok here.     EDIT: Just did a quick refresher. You're screwed. This is Global-A. The 2 systems are NOT compatible in the slightest. Once you get the correct engine in there that IS compatible, you're going to need to see how many computers are locked. Absolute NIGHTMARE to straighten out, too. Your buddy might be better off cutting his losses and finding something else.   Welcome to post-2006 vehicle electronics. This is why I quit the industry, and drive nothing built after 1994. This stuff takes all the fun out of wrenching!

    • True, hard to say what differences there may or may not be between Chev and GM as well as a production year or mid year part change either.    I just found it odd that under the Sierra choice on the Autel that many of the last few years of production year did not include the choice of changing the tire pressure but if that is an Autel thing or a GM thing as to why the choices were not there. Knowing what tpms sensors are on the truck should give some guidance into which choices on the tool even make sense to try as I wouldn't give up just yet with the tool but I guess he will see what if anything he comes up with if he finds out a bit more info and tries a few more things on the Autel.
