First Impressions/ Planned Upgrades

Recommended Posts

Well I finally got it.

After a rather quick drive back from Utah to Texas my AT4 has made it home and my average MPG is about what I expected. The truck was everything I wanted, and more. I was at around 18MPG while leaving the Salt Lake City area, as soon as I hit the mountains, I dropped to around 14. Gained a little back through the plains of New Mexico and West Texas. Final MPG over 1,300 miles was 16.2.

Now for my long list of planned upgrades, I would love anyone’s feedback if they have used any of these products/ any recommendations for other things.

The truck:

           6.2

           2020

           AT4

           Technology Package

           Drive Alert II

           Premium Package

Planned Modifications:

Major Plans:

Congrats.  Pacific Blue?   Same thing I've been eyeing for awhile.  Couldnt find exactly what I wanted locally and decided to wait for production to start back up.

Yes, I had to go nationwide to find one. I had been searching for well of a month after my 2017 was totaled. Found it used with 10K miles in Utah at a fair price so flew out and made the purchase.

Ouch, 16.2? now I feel spoiled averaging 27+ [emoji23].

I didn't even want the diesel, I just knew I didn't want the 5.3. (they had 2 3.0 all others were 5.3). The 5.3 is so bad I literally ended up bringing back a LTZ tech package. For a elevation X31. (That's why I had to choose from what they had on the lot)

looking at my fuel economy records, my truck only averages about 1.5 to 2 MPG lower than my Fiesta ST did!!

I'd take a monster 6.2L anyday over the 3.0L or 5.3L. The power, speed, sound, and performance of the 6.2L is amazing. I don't care what my MPG's are, because I can't stop smiling when I put my foot onto the pedal!  Enjoy your new truck with the 6.2L. It's gorgeous and It won't disappoint you!! My last 2 haven't

$14 in caliper paint and your time is far cheaper than $184 for some cheap plastic looking caliper covers.

I own an 8.1 I know exactly what you mean.

But in Alaska the spiciest fuel you can find is 90 octane. Currently its $3.10 per gallon, last year was $3.89.....

I do 20-25k/year and figured the 5yr/100k warranty couldn't hurt. (Would suck to have an out of pocket powertrain failure while still making payments.)

I was going to get a Denali. But none had the tech package on the lot. The dealer found a perfect Denali ultimate with the 6.2 and tech package AND SUNROOF but his sales manager refused to do the dealer trade.

perfect other than the 22inch wheels which no one makes a studded winter tire for and therefore would have to go immediately in the trash. WAYYYY too much ice here.

I wanted the Denali as I was unhappy with the way the 19 LTZ non Z71 suspension behaved and to be honest I'm still unhappy with how the X31 behaves, but King can fix that. The elevation X31 was only 2K cheaper. [emoji53] I also knew I needed the 6.5 bed as 5.5 is simply too small for me.

I keep having that debate with myself as well.  My last truck was the short bed, and 99% of the time I was perfectly happy.  But any time that I really needed to haul something I'd gripe about the bed not being long enough.  Those times are typically few and far between, but I don't want to end up griping about it again, especially for what these trucks now cost.

I had a loaner with the shorter bed and I feel like the extra 3 inches combined with the depth makes it useable, but I am happy with my decision. My ranger, and 2500HD both had 6.5 beds and I felt like the size was perfect. My 2019 ram was simply too small.

Bear in mind though I think that Ford's extended cab 8ft F-150 combo is by far the best, (I got a soft spot for the clamshell doors) As far as capability combined with daily ability. I didn't want a crew cab, it was nice to flip the sets up and sleep on my last camping trip during a freak sudden downpoor before I could set the tent up, but I have no need for the rear seats and have been perfectly content with my extended cabs.

Although if you do gravel roads even with the protection package the leading edge of the bed gets chewed up pretty fast. Whereas the shorter bed the rocks hit the inside on the bed instead of the outside painted area of the longer wheelbase.

Just a heads up on the fog light trim, if the pictures in that link are representative of what you will receive those are not correct.

I've had both and I can honestly say I don't miss the 6.2.  Don't get me wrong, it was absolutely fantastic but the 5.3 does great as well and I don't have to feed it premium fuel.
If I want to stop light race I'll take out the 2010 RS/SS Camaro.

I'll agree with you that the 5.3L does well. I had 2 of them and they pulled my boat and did everything I wanted it to do. But after driving a 6.2L it's no comparison. GM still needs to up its HP though, because they could and it would still be as reliable and a workhorse. I would love to see it at 400 HP and 450 TQ.  Perfect numbers for it and very achievable.  I just have a deep desire for going fast and this new 6.2L truck hauls @$$.

My buddy who does window tinting, his son has a 2006 Impala SS with corsa exhaust, custom tuned, CAI, beefed up 4 spd tranny. We did a 30 mph roll and I beat that car by a fender. I was totally impressed bc those SS Impala's factory are a 5.3L 303HP, and with the mods, he is close to 350 HP.. Plus if you look at curb weight. My truck is roughly 4900 lbs. His car is roughly 3700 lbs.

Also, I love the look of your year camaro (2010-2013) the best. Nice cars!!!  Take care

Silverado 6.2 is 420 hp/ 460 LB-FT on 93 non-ethanol. No other V8 comes close.

Well except for the TRD supercharged 5.7 tundra but since they won't let you buy that kit anymore.
