Jrod18 Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 Just curious on what it would take to put a 2012 Duramax and Allison tranny in a 2001 Z71.
davester Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 A lot. The electronics between the trucks are totally different, and integrated throughout the truck. So, you basically need to stuff all the wiring/dash/electronics from the 2012 into the '01. And you also will likely want to add the 2" body lift for clearance (at least, probably will need more body/frame modifications to work. And don't forget to change out the front and rear diffs (with strong versions, not just a different ratio) to handle the torque of the Duramax, and bigger torsion bars up front to support the extra weight of the engine.
tlaw91 Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 It would take less time to figure out how to drop the 01 body onto the 12 frame then to go through swapping powertrains2001 frames aren’t meant to handle that Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Colossus Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 Don't use a 2012 in a 2001. You'd want the Diesels prior to the LMM (up to 2007.5) anything after has emissions stuff that will cause all kinds of problems.
