Gtschwifty Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 Picking up a 2012 5.3 LC9 6L80 WT this weekend. Only 25,000 miles. Fluids will be checked. Mods I am budgeting for are: suspension + tires, looking at superchips flashcal to turn off AFM, and will assess the brakes. My question is, are there any other known weaknesses on this model run/engine/trans I should be on the lookout for?
CamGTP Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 Other than the ones you already know about, no not really. AFM and oil burning issues on some 5.3's are common. The rest is just common failure points that come with age and mileage. Like upper ball joints, leaking shocks, door lock actuators going bad. The salt belt suffers from rear wheel well rust and under the weather stripping on the bottom of the doors. 1
Gtschwifty Posted August 29, 2020 Author Posted August 29, 2020 It sure seems like it, limited driving today. See how I like it after the 8 hour drive tomorrow
flyingfool Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 torque converter might be one weakness on it...
Gtschwifty Posted August 30, 2020 Author Posted August 30, 2020 Thanks I'll keep an eye on it. All seemed great for the 600 miles today, aside from the original tires
