I've picked out my truck and price, I have my appraisal of my trade and ready to go but the dealer im working with does not have the truck I want and the dealers that do will not trade with them. Im thinking about just ordering a brand new 2020 the way I want it and waiting. My salesman told me 8-10 weeks to take delivery, is this accurate? How long did yours take?

You may want to make sure with your dealer what they can get you.  I had to have them confirm for me before making a decision to go in a different direction.

I was in a similar situation.  Local dealer first said they could order it, then they could find it.  Bottom line was that they could not get the truck we wanted, said they could work out a trade, I kept finding trucks on the chevy locator only for the dealer to tell me they could not work it out.  Got frustrated with the dealer.  Evidently these trucks and the backup for lost production from shutdowns has the 2020's in short supply, and so dealers are not trading them to other dealers. I actually had a better equipped truck than the one I bought found exactly how we wanted it just 2 hours away from home and the dealer I was trying to work with cost me on that one by not being straight with me.   We ended up going to Ohio almost 8 hours away to get our 2020.  I located the truck the day it showed up in transit and worked out a deal and put a down payment on it over the phone a day or two later.  The closer truck had a couple options I wish I had in our truck.

I asked a different local dealer about ordering us a truck and they told me orders would be for 2021's at this point and would be 6-8 weeks out.  Also said that pricing and rebates would be with what was at that current time when the truck arrived.   That was about 3 weeks ago, so I am guessing unless something has happened to dramatically change availability of 20's, that you would be buying a 21.  She also told me that the current promotions are likely to be much better price points than when the 21's start to hit, which I already knew.

I was going to buy a 2019 when the 2020's hit the lots last fall.  Made the mistake (blessing) of test  driving a 2020 and fell in love.   Here in Texas, they were asking full MSRP for all trucks last fall.   Wasn't going to pay full MSRP so I decided to wait until the 2021's hit the lot.   COVID hit and GMC was offering great rebates starting in June so I started shopping early.  I knew I wanted a dark colored 3500 Denali so kept an eye on the inventory anywhere within 1000 miles of me.   Dealerships from time to time would heavily discount a fleet of trucks.  With the discounts, the Denalis were below $70k.   Would find one in St Louis, Tampa Bay and finally pulled the trigger on one last week in Little Rock.  A week prior, I test drove one from a local dealer and they were MSRP minus the $4k GMC rebate.  Would not match any prices anywhere close to $70k.   I flew to Little Rock and drove it 7 hours home.  Spent $200 on airline ticket and a tank of gas but saved $6-7k on any local dealership price.  I think I was smiling the entire 7 hour trip home.

I went to the GMC website and built a truck the way I wanted it.   After you build it, you can hit "view inventory" and it will pull up all the vehicle matching your build.   The thumbnails that pull up have close to MSRP prices but if you click every truck to get a closer view, a few dealerships would have a dealer discount on top of the GMC rebate.  The total discount would be $9-12k less than MSRP.  It was time consuming but well worth it.  I was able to find these deals in June, July and August.  They would typically have 5-7 trucks of the same model/build, one of each color.  They would last about a week and then be gone.  The dealership I bought from had 6 at great price and were gone within a week.   Spoke with my salesman when I picked my truck up and he said 4 of the 6 were sold to out of state buyers.  I was TX, 3 of the other trucks were sold to buyers from CA, TN and FL.

I built with the Denali ultimate package, technology package and 5th wheel package.   I stopped adding the convenience package (console vault/rear seat storage), protection package (floormats) and gooseneck hitch package (gooseneck ball) because you can add all of that after market for a lot less and not much work.
