Hey guys. So I just bought a 2013 Z71. Little did I know, the truck has 3.08 gearing. I already ordered my 35’s and was wondering if you guys think I’d be alright running them? I only tow occasionally, and when I do, it would be a Honda pioneer 500. So what do you guys think? Should I piss off the tire shop and cancel my order, and get 33’s instead? Or do you think I’ll be okay? Anybody that has 35’s and 3.08’s themselves are MORE than welcome to drop some input down below. Thanks!

You won't like it that's for sure. If you think it's slow now getting up to speed it will be even worse with 35's.

I'm surprised it has 3.08's being a Z71 truck.

What is your RPO code in the glove box??

GU4 is 3.08 and the more common gearing is GU6 for 3.42's. GT4 would be 3.73's.

is this a 8 or 10 speed trans?

just find a 4 wheel shop and spend another $1500 on a gear change, arn't Denali's equipts with 5.11 or something crazy to spin 25" nogger rims?

I thought it was odd too... should’ve checked before I bought. But yep, has GU4 and G80. Will the truck still be driveable? Or will it render completely useless?

lug lug a chuggin... just leave it in 3rd gear , i would actually keep the rear diff as is.  kinda cool to have long legs for the freeway, then source a 3.74 rear diff, those usually come in z71 and work trucks. with the G80 bomb locker.. then just do an easy unbolt full rear end swap, throw the 3.08 in storage till  you get time to install gears in it.  junker yard diff might cost $500 with everything

on it

i'de run the 33-34" tall tires with the steel 17" PPV police rims

It will be a little sluggish in comparison. People have been running big tires since the 3 speed 150 HP days. They managed.

disconnect the drive to the front until you find a front diff with 3.74 gears

Curiosity is getting the better of me. All my 4WDs were 373 or 410s so I never changed the gears. My 4WDs were for just in case and rarely used. And my work was off road. So here we go the question. If you just change the rear gear and leave the front disengage. You’re off road and get stuck. You have 456 rear gear and 410 in front. You put in 4WD to get out of the mud. The front will have more pull than the rear. The rear will still pull right? You get out disengage and go. I wouldn’t engage on pavement. I wouldn’t anyway. So in reality what’s the big deal? Eventually change the front.

probably  use it for emergency to get out a rut thats all.  but a 2wd  and transfer case  in 4 Lo,  with a gov locker will get you out too. i would just run no front drive shaft til you get your parts together.
