Frame Rust - Should I Be Concerned?

I thought this was interesting so I posted it.

I was talking to my son who is a mechanic. He has a 2006 1500 Sierra with 200 K miles. He lives in Michigan and they salt the roads in winter. States that use pure salt on their roads are the worst for rust.

The frame on his truck has some places where it has rusted through. He is hoping to get 2 more years out of his frame before it's unsafe.

That is really unfortunate.  I guess living up north you really have to add frame maintenance to the maintenance plan.

i use a plant sprayer from home depot , filled with old used transmission fluid , i hose my frame down with it once a year. but i'm far from the rust belt

I keep a can of Tremclad rust paint on hand for exactly this.
