I took mine in today for the third visit for the engine whine.  Some older mechanic who said he’s been in the business for a long time rode with me to hear the whining.  He tried to tell me he couldn’t hear the noise.  I said really! You don’t hear what sounds like a fire engine siren in the distance coming from the front of the truck? Then he proceeded to tell me that he was deaf in his left ear.  I laughed and said that would be my luck! Then he eventually heard it and drove it himself to see if he could feel the degradation of power as well.  He said he didn’t know how it felt when it was new so he wanted to test drive another one from the sales lot.  Not sure where that ended up because I had to get to work so I left it.  They gave me a loaner.  This visit here will take me into the time window for the lemon law. I already spoke with an attorney and started the process.

Good luck. Keep me posted cause im also curious how yours will play out. Still waiting to hear from my lawyer

I don’t blame you. I love the truck, just want it fixed.  But I too am getting alittle tired of letting it sit in the shop more than my driveway!

The worst part about it is i loved my truck when i bought it and loved it after ive put some work into it with tint, lift, tires, etc. But now that its been in the shop and just been a PITA for me i lost some of my love for it.

Looking forward to hearing from my lawyer.

If you dont wanna post it here send me a private message i wanna know what yours says

Also my friends dad had a new silverado with a rear end knock that that they couldn't figure out. They bought his truck back minus $2k my friend said and gave him a new one. Didnt go into much detail but i cant imagine he lost money on it. At this point i wouldnt even take a trade in

I don't hear any knocking, It sounds normal to me. But maybe your picking up on something you can't hear through the video. As far as the power loss goes.. If they did work on the transmission they would have re-programmed or updated the tcm/ecm. Unfortunately these updates are most often are geared towards fuel economy/emissions or part longevity, not performance.

My 17 had an update done at one point to address low speed shifting problems. The update helped shifting slightly, but the truck didn't have the same fire it did before.

They said they re-built the transmission? Do you have the work order with parts/service performed?

I think it more sounds like a lower end mettalic ticking to me than a knock. Prior to the transmission repair i could hear the knock and the ticking. But either way BOTH are new compared to what its been doing the last 11k miles.

I thought about that with the tranny. Asking if they can reflash it to see if that helps maybe.

I still want to have them let me drive another trail boss to evaluate for myself. Cause thats the only piece of mind ill have. It never made any noise (the engine) than all of a sudden Started to make noise.

I dont have the service record with me. But i know they replaced a bunch of seals and they broke 3 manifold bolts off in the process-_-

Any updates? I know it's been months but I got a 2020 6.2L LT Trail boss couple months back and I am currently having the whining noise issue.

    • You refuse to own anything made in this century yet you reportedly own... a 2007 Silverado, which is now almost 20 years old. The dissonance.... turn up your hearing aid?   You clearly don't understand the government contracting process, brother. We send people to die on front lines, keep the public safe, and make people's husbands, wives, children enter burning buildings with equipment from .....wait for it.....   ...the lowest bidder....   Just because something is used for a long time doesn't mean it's good. But it might be cheap and plentiful.   Please, continue to whine about new trucks in a thread dedicated to new trucks, which you've said you'll never own. We get it. Go tell everyone how you're stuck in time on a Panther forum. I mean, Jesus, an 86 isn't even one of the good Panthers.
    • It really is comical when people don’t agree or see the reason some people prefer the older vehicles. They become condescending. All the while they may be busting their knuckles on old vehicles. I have found memories of swapping out engines in my old GM cars in a weekend without much hassle. Unlike today. One wrong move a computer will shut you down. Even on something as easy as a brake job. There’s a pretty comical YouTuber called the car wizard. A garage owner who puts it all in perspective. Another Vicegrip garage that’s shows just how tough the old stuff is.
    • I was around and remember that era very well, so I'm calling b/s on that statement. If they were that bad no police department or taxi company would've bought a single one ... but they were used in both services (and fire) for DECADES. They were bulletproof and proven. Even the early 21st century ones weren't too bad! The early models were legendary.   Mine is proof, but people like atlas are blinded by agenda and refuse to believe facts right before their very eyes.   Even decades after they were built, a new generation started driving them, posting all their builds and shenanigans on Grandmarq.net and Crownvic.net. The failures would show up then, since they all were deep past 100k-150k miles by that point, and younger drivers tend to be a little aggressive, especially with vehicles than can lay a one-tire fire for as long as you hold your foot in it. They've more than proven themselves over the decades.   The only thing that'll really take them out is road salt. The bodies and sheet metal were garbage. A victim of the cheapout FoMoCo and GM have been partaking in before then, and since.   Today it's the stuff that counts - the undercarriage that rots away first!    GMs Caprice was no slouch either. Reliable as a stone ax - the opposite of what they build now.
    • Let me know how your vehicles do in 10 years. You don't know ******, kid. 😂    There's a reason that Panther platform was used as police, fire, and taxi service for DECADES ... long before you were born, apparently.
    • If your connector also has a big lever to get the connector on and off, you don't want to force the lever either way, as it becomes a bigger problem if you bust the lever or the mechanism it works.
