If you have had a buyback done on your truck can you post your experience?

Did you reach out to GM while your truck was in the shop or did they reach out to you?

Did you get all your money back?

How long did the process take?

Would you have rather done a lemon law lawyer?

Thinking i might have to/ want to go this route with my 2020 trailboss

I have a 2020 Sierra 1500 AT4 that I bought in March of this year. Had the front axle jingle since 460~ miles on the truck and it has been into service 4 times trying to fix the issue. Dealer service confirmed the issue can’t be fixed at this time and to call GM.

I filled a BBB Autoline case and called GM back in April to start this horrific process. July they offered to replace the truck but no dealer in my state had inventory or wanted to take part in the “buy back process”. I’m still trying to figure out a solution with GM... Total 7 months

Have you decided what to do yet? I’m in a similar situation. 2020 Sierra Denali, $65k+ a couple months ago, less than 1k miles, electrical problems and now engine is destroyed, needs to be replaced. A month in the shop. They are suggesting an extended warranty but that doesn’t seem like enough for the loss of value and reliability concerns. BBB hotline seems like a disaster. Not sure if working with GM directly smarter or just get a lemon law attorney and let them handle it.

1000% work with a lemon law over the dealer. Guaranteed you have a case.

Ive reached the lemon law point myself now. Im in contact with one lemon law lawyer who has helped me through the process. Im ready to start the official process but he hasnt emailed me back in 2 days so im calling him monday or going with a different lawyer.

But for something like your situation absolutely go with a lawyer. Be prepared that you are looking at a 6+ month process and hopefully you are in a free loaner from dealer currently.

GM may offer you a buyback or trade allowance but itll never be as good as what a true lawyer gets you (which is free to you btw). Also FYI if a dealership offers you a buyback that is not the same as a manufacturer offering it. Its essentially a glorified trade allowance

Yeah that’s kind of how I’m feeling now. Brand new truck, electrical issues, needs a new engine, they can’t even say what’s wrong, been in the shop almost as many days as I’ve been able to drive it—seems fair to just start over with a new truck. Offering an extended warranty doesn’t seem like much at all.

The lawyers are good at knowing if you have a case or not. They give FREE legal advice in it too. Reach out to one and see.

Cause i agree extended warranty isnt enough

What’s a lawyer going to cost? Right now people are getting good money for their used trucks. If you trade it in for something new what’s the cost difference VS time, vs agitation of the process.

Per federal/ state law lemon law lawyers are paid for by the manufacturer

I see. Is that only if you win the case???

I think either way as far as i can tell....

I see your point though about trade in values etc.

But for me i bought a 55k new truck that should work flawlessly. It doesn't. They have to make it right. Plus im not going to put my problems onto someone else trading it in like that...

Even if it takes 6 months... ill recoup all loan/ costs associated with the truck back to the first day i filed my original complaint. So no loss to me.

Now the guys trucks who engines blown that sucks but even rental car costs will be covered by the lemon law assuming hes not in a dealer loaner

Take my advice.

Anything GM is going to offer is in their benefit, not yours. Lemon law attorney is the way to go. Gm offered me no help on my 19 that was a turd. I wont go into the whole story but my truck fell under the lemon law warranty in My State. In less the 3 months I had my settlement. BBB is a waste. That route got me nothing.

It blows my mind that people here defend that its normal for a 60k truck to have problem after problem with no help from GM. These trucks are true junk and gm should be ashamed they can sell something for 60k and just leave people with zero help.

    • Looking for this piece that holds the hose clamp in place. I have the hose clamp just not that other piece. Dealers and wrecking yards in my area will not sell just that piece. They want you to buy the whole air tube $100 +/- to get that $5 part.  that piece isn't molded to the air tube as I looked at my friends truck. It's held on by a screw and nut. I'm trying to put the OEM parts on the truck as the previous owner butchered things up installing an aftermarket CAI. It really looked homemade. 🤣 Thanks
    • Ok I missed that part that yours is a GM. The strange part is that the choice for year ranges and within the year of 2026 is different on the Sierra then on the Chev for some reason as I am looking at my tool at the Sierra choices. Now I am guessing you see as to your sensor part number as it may be different on your truck for some reason and a call to GM should get you the part model number of the sensors you should have as well as which MHz your sensors are. I know mine are the ones as per what I listed but there are other choices in the Autel and got me wondering if by some chance they put different ones in your truck. Having said that, did you try using each of the choices starting from No 1 and going on down the list, not sure if that would mean shutting off the engine each time and resetting the tool and going at it again each time. Also I thought of something else which may sound retarded but if there was some stupid chance that the chev choice would work. The reason I say that is that the Sierra is showing a range up to 06/2026 for the various choices of sensors it could be where as the Chev has one choice that has that 12/2026. By the way it is possible to not run the truck and you may know that as per not pressing the brake but pressing and holding the start button for a few seconds and it lights up the dash ( its called service mode ) but that sucks battery power and if it were me doing it that way I would be throwing on a decent sized battery charger before doing it that way as killing your battery won't make you happy at me at all !.    Like I say, just a thought to try the Chev choices if you have already exhausted the Sierra choices but first it would be nice to know for sure what exact sensor model and hertz your truck uses as I assume only those choices that mention the sensor would work unless a choice that does not mention the sensor model would somehow work. Its frustrating when one is trying to use tools like this without the experience of the tool and the vehicle, as I am sure dealer techs themselves struggle with it when starting out or a new model year comes along that is slightly different.
    • I tried before I updated the scan tool just incase an update messed it up, but it never worked so I updated the scan tool and it still didn't work.   Only difference is I click on Sierra not Chevrolet cause I have a Sierra.   If I click on 2026-2024 I didn't have any option to change placard, when I click on 2023 it does give me the option but when I try to do it,.it says vehicle not supported!   I have my region or market or whatever it is set to America I think, is that what yours is set to?
    • Its just that it worked on 2024 trucks on this forum and my 2025 model truck, unless GM did something since that point to screw up access or Autel has a bad update. I haven't had need to use my tool since last year when I did the changes to the placard pressure settings and since then I updated the software on my Autel but have not plugged into the OBD so hard to say if I would get a surprise as well.    All I know last year when I bought the Autel I was warned to be sure to update it before I tried using the unit as they said who knows how long ago unit itself was actually manufactured as the software could be way out of date.
    • And so you had gone through the process of registering and updating the tool and so on ?. All I can say is that on the front page as the tool fires up you go to advanced mode, then vehicle model comes up and you choose Silverado ( not the DRW or EV  since your a single rear wheel ) , then I think its choice 2 which is 07/2021 - 12/2026 ( 433mhz 13542523 ) as that is the series of tpms sensors and then go down to choice 5 which is tire type/pressure selection. Hit yes and it says to connect to OBD port and turn ignition on.    Having said this, I updated the software in my tool lately and these year range choices look different from the past due to them doing some updates it would appear and I have not connected up to the OBD port since last year so hopefully I am not in for a surprise with them screwing up the software and that it won't work on my truck anymore either.    So my question is, when you plugged into the OBD and started your truck it had that message on the Autel screen "vehicle not supported" ?. That does seem odd as tire shops would be pissed right off if hey can't use their tool on the model year after mine that in theory is supposed to be much the same truck ... unless GM did some change in the computer system to block certain things from access.
