For those of you that have ordered a truck what was the process on the the price?  

 

Invoice or slightly higher?

Negotiated?

Rebates get applied when delivered?

 

I have never ordered a truck and may be doing so so wasn't sure what the norm was.

Me too.  I don't really want/need anything more than an AT4 with the Premium package.  I don't need the tech and driver 2 packages, sunroof (have one now and never use it and the shade is closed most of the time due to sun shining into my eyes) but it seem most AT4 come with those 3 options.  3.0 duramax.

Rebates will be determined during the month in which you purchase.  So if you order in December, but the truck comes February and you sign the papers, any rebates in February would apply.  I wouldn't settle too hard on a final price as again, the rebates will vary.

Good luck!  I've never had the motivation to order a new vehicle as I feel I can make a better deal with in-stock vehicles.  I know that incentives apply to both ordered and stock vehicles but I always feel that dealers prefer to move inventory.  I have filled in many "dream" build sheets online but I'm better at making the big choice rather than several little ones.  I've also found that features I thought were important or things I thought were a waste, often  change.  My current truck has a "must have"  sliding rear window which I rarely use.  I based this decision on the many trucks I had without A/C.   This truck came with parking sensors which I would have never ordered.  (My DD has been a pickup since my first 1969 F100 and I certainly don't need help parking.)  Now, I wouldn't buy a truck without!  I also like the instant gratification of buying off the lot.  If I ordered, I'd probably go nuts second guessing my choices while waiting! ?  Enjoy your new truck!

Rebate/program will be whatever is available at time of delivery. (of course if it's a supplier/fleet program of some sort, then you likely already know what the program is)

Dealer discount is whatever you can negotiate. 

Of course trade value is also whatever you can negotiate, 

 -- and they still play the game moving dollars between discount and trade-in to suit what they think you want to hear.

 

I've never signed paperwork or given any deposit to order.

I've also always been able to arrive at a deal I was happy with after the truck arrived.

I ordered and took delivery of my 2021 Silverado last month. IMO the best site to use is the https://www.gmsupplierdiscount.com/build-and-price/ website as I find the configurator the easiest. If you know someone to get you a Supplier authorization code, that is the price you pay, with the incentives of the month you take delivery applied. I've heard that if you don't use the Supplier you might be able to negotiate a bigger dealer discount, but it didn't work for me. No wiggle room with the supplier discount either, but I was satisfied with the price I was getting. No paperwork or deposit.

Same as a usual sales process - price negotiable, rebates applied, good trade-in value.  Certainly not paying MSRP or close to it, at least with my local dealer.  They are a pleasure to work with.

 

More importantly, no deposit required and no obligation to buy once it arrives.

Sometimes you can get it through the company you work for, you can search that on the site. Or if you know someone who is a GM employee (or in my case the Son of a retiree) they can give you it too.

I came very near ordering a dodge then later a gmc this year. Dodge doesn't apply any credits or rebates until the truck lands at the dealer which this year was at least 6 weeks out. With that most current incentives would have expired and whatever came next would be available but not predictable. The gmc dealer I talked to would let us "buy" the vehicle as soon as it had an active vin number which is at end of production. So they would apply rebates much sooner for more predictability. 

 

In the end I found a Chevy with all I wanted. I did compromise on color and would have rather had the gmc sheet metal. I would suggest getting what you want as much as you can afford it. I had pretty bad buyers remorse because there was a 21 gmc being built that was super close to my specs but it was near the end of October so the big incentives were going to be missed IF the truck wasn't done in time. I decided not to chance it and get the chevy at 9k off the sticker instead. It's growing on me but hurt for a few weeks.

    • That makes sense, and I think you are describing the real product problem. Capturing data is the easy part. If the owner or technician has to manually dig through five minutes of millisecond-level logs, the product has already failed. The device would be at the ECM harness, not at the OBD port, so I agree that data retrieval and event marking need to be thought through carefully. The way I am thinking about the architecture is: The recorder itself should not depend on a phone, app, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cloud connection to capture the event. It should always keep a local rolling buffer and lock the event locally. A button, phone app, or small cabin device would only act as an event marker. If the driver feels a stumble and presses the button 10–30 seconds later, the pre-buffer has to already contain the useful data. For data retrieval, the practical options would be a sealed service USB lead, Wi-Fi download, or a phone/cabin companion device. I would not expect the owner to remove the ECM-side module or work with raw files directly. The cloud or AI side would be for interpretation, not for capturing the event. The truck may have no connection when the issue happens, so the evidence has to be saved locally first. After that, cloud processing could help decode the data, compare it against baselines, and generate a readable report. For the first version, I would keep the automatic triggers conservative and objective: driver event marker bus-off error passive voltage drop / brownout device reset FIFO or queue overflow a normally periodic message disappearing side-to-side communication mismatch, if the topology supports that For “learning normal,” I agree with your point, but I would not want to overclaim it as automatic root-cause diagnosis at first. A realistic first step would be learned baseline comparison for that specific vehicle and operating condition. For example, a value would only be compared against similar conditions: RPM range load / MAP throttle position gear / vehicle speed coolant and oil temperature battery voltage AFM/DFM state, if decoded and validated Then the report could flag things like: this periodic message disappeared compared with its normal timing this value deviated from this vehicle’s normal range under similar conditions the same abnormal pattern repeated after the same type of event the anomaly occurred together with voltage, oil-pressure, misfire, or communication changes But I would still call that “abnormal pattern detected,” not “replace this part,” unless there is enough validated repair data behind it. So the intended product would not be “here is a huge log.” It would need to be an event package: what triggered the capture how much pre/post data was preserved what changed before and after the event whether the device itself reset, overflowed, or saw a bus error selected graphs around the event raw data only as supporting evidence From your perspective, what would make this kind of report useful instead of just another datalog? For example: What are the top 5 parameters or events you would want highlighted first? Would you trust a learned baseline for that specific vehicle, or would you prefer fixed thresholds? How much false-positive flagging would be acceptable before you stopped looking at the reports? What would a one-page report need to show for an independent shop to take it seriously? For misfire, AFM/DFM, oil pressure, or U-code complaints, what would you want the tool to flag automatically?
