6.0 Block heater

It would seem easy to me to just cut the thermostat off the end of the block heater cord and replace it with a regular end so it runs when it’s plugged in.

Yeah you can do that too.

 

I just removed the cap over the thermostat with a pair of pliers and broke the thermostat away. Stuck a small piece wire across the contacts and lots of solder. Push the cap back on and called it good.

Thats not a bad idea....I hear that will turn the CEL on however correct? No a big deal as I can just clear the code if thats the case.

It may or may not. I never ran into issues with it tripping the light for that specific problem.

 

I also didn't have it turned on all night long, it was on a timer that came on around 3:00 am or so and would be on for 30-40min and off for 20ish. It was good enough to keep the temps 30-40 degrees above ambient, which helped a lot when the temps were -10 to 15 degrees outside here in Minnesota.

I too heard about possibly flagging the CEL when running the block heater with thermostat cut off at temps above 40?
