So, silly question.  How do I know if I have a power-down tailgate?   Because it just unlocks when I push the button, doesn’t go down, so I am suspecting I don’t.
2019 TB.  Build sheet says “Tailgate with lift assist and power lock.”

Build sheet should read RPO Code: QT5 - EASY LIFT, POWER LOCK AND RELEASE TAILGATE.

i hope someone creates a after market manual tailgate latch for these trucks. I open mine 100 times or more a day sometimes. Its only a matter of time..

maybe its time to fire up Fusion and the 3d printer ...

I think all of them that have the button has power assist. i know mine does and its a lower Trim Level WT Truck. I do like the power down feature . but as said above , Just like the power door locks on my Work Van  locked and unlocked  all day long at times ( lots of expensive stuff and sometimes in sketchy parts of town)  wear out quite quickly.

I"m happy to report I finally got the updated actuator, and it took care of my issue.  I really wish I had joined here earlier as it would have saved me a lot of money and headaches.

Thanks to everyone for all the help.

My 2019 Silverado tailgate would not open without pushing button many times. After getting it open I pushed the locks into locking position on both sides with my finger and could see the right side not unlocking when pressing the button on my key fob. It would take 3-7 attempts before unlocking. I then removed the back panel off of the tailgate to check the actuator and noticed the right side rod that goes out from actuator was more loose than left side. I removed it carefully and took a pair of pliers and bent in the 90 degree bends an both ends of the rod just a little more and replaced it back into it's mechanisms and put the the small latches back on. It did the trick. Opens on first try every time now. I guess over time those rods just get a little loose or the holder gets worn.

Crank the truck, see if inner gate open warning is on.  If it is, hit the inner gate button and keep slamming it until the warning is off.  A tailgate shouldn’t be this difficult to design.

Somehow the tailgate will not operate if that warning is on.

@lothodon any chance you have the part number for the updated actuator, or is the one that was shared previously in the thread what I should look for? A quick Google search of that part number comes up with a few different options.

I’m having the same issue with my 2019 Trail Boss.

Pickup Box Tailgate Lock Actuator - GM (84873070)

This is the updated actuator that was posted previously by @lothodon.  This number came straight from the GM service bulletin that was attached in an earlier thread.  I also have been fighting this issue with my 2019 silverado RST since day 1.  A year ago I brought it to the dealer and they replaced the wiring harness for the tailgate, but the issue is back and I also am going to try the new and improved actuator.  No surprise, chevy still can not make a working tailgate latch.
